Your thoughts are correct, and while for some people moving in together before such a large commitment is an important part of a vetting strategy, for others it can spell disaster with combined finances, broken leases, being “stuck”. So it’s very case by case.

Since she’s already moved in, the most important thing she needs to do is not combine other assets, keep her own personal savings and emergency savings intact, and keep vetting. If she wants to be married or proposed to by 1 year, that should be her boundary. Marriage timelines can also depend on age, culture, career status, etc.

There's really not enough here to go off of, it's odd that you think he would only bring up marriage if he was being earnest.

It comes down to does he want her to move in for support (financially, emotionally, physically, etc) or is he doing it out of an intention for the next step in partnership. Yes, all advice against moving in prior and less than a year together is often too soon to know! They could be one of those couples that it works but what it will come down to is watching for is if this is means to an end or true. If he starts to expect certain behavior like cleaning, cooking, supporting, etc. She will have to discern for herself. She will need to hold solid boundaries and to consider this a “test run” as well. Does he show up the way she needs? Does he care and navigate conflict maturely? Does he have decent understanding of what it takes to build a partnership and a household?

imo it can be a good sign if a man imagines marrying his gf and voices that passionately, even early on. as long as they dont act on it too quick and stay rational wrt building up their lives (house, job, school, finances..), then all it means is that he is in love and that he is the type of man to want a marriage, want to meet the love of his life now/soon. i find it cute :-)

the point is to stay serious with what is important in life, dont do things that let you fall for the usual traps women fall into. keep financial independence. prioritize whats important to you.

yes as you note in your post, moving in early is often a mistake women make, but as someone else said, since she's already moved in and he;s expressed serious intentions, a good thing to do at this point would be to make her boundaries clear, and have a serious conversation about timeline -- are we getting married in a year? two? how long do you want to stay engaged? where are we going to live? etc
