When girls see chad they glance away so they don’t seem desperate. Whereas men are hornier and lower IQ so they keep staring. Problem solved

[–]Ohyarlysmiles[S] 7 points8 points9 points 4 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link

Lol nice speculation bereft of evidence.

[–]controversyonly 10 points11 points12 points 4 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

The only conclusion drawn from this study is women stare less at attractive men than vice versa. Big whoop. Proves absolutely nothing

[–]Ohyarlysmiles[S] 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

No.

Women show NO DIFFERENCE at all in gazing behavior in the presence of attractive and unattractive men.

Big difference

[–]controversyonly 7 points8 points9 points 4 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

Still proves literally nothing.

[–]Ohyarlysmiles[S] -1 points0 points1 point 4 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Except that this magical effect and power of handsome men over women gets chipped away at every day....

[–]controversyonly 7 points8 points9 points 4 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Not really. Again, maybe women just have a difference response than stating like buffoons at guys they find attractive?

[–]Ohyarlysmiles[S] 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Ya maybe.

Of course....

Other studies show that attractiveness and female grooling/arousal are also UNCORRELATED....

Hmmm....

Link those studies

Gazing duration isn’t not the end all be all

[+]Ohyarlysmiles[S] -8 points-7 points-6 points 4 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

No but it's good evidence cutting against the mythical powers of being handsome dreamed up by blackpillers.

[–]Red_Lancia_Stratos 9 points10 points11 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I disagree. If anything it calls into question the male gaze narrative as meaningful. The women still knew the more attractive men were more attractive

[–]Ohyarlysmiles[S] -1 points0 points1 point 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

^ literally nonsense.

Women did not prolong or alter their gazing behavior at all for really handsome guys.

Men did.

That would actually support the male gaze narrative.

This was a terribly designed study, but this specific issue is something the redpillers are right on.

Getting eye contact with a woman, and then not breaking it, is one of the few things that can boost a man from average to attractive in a woman's eyes.

the full study here

We explained the sex differences in gazing at physically attractive targets by linking them to sex differentiated attraction communication. We want to emphasize that we did not directly test mating strategies, but taken together, the pattern of results fits nicely with the suggestion that men engage in overt, proactive, mating strategies while women engage in more covert, cautious strategies. With regard to the male mating strategy, this would mean that male ancestors who acted upon the visual identification of fertile, healthy, women, were more successful in attaining them as mates. Due to the sex differences in parental investment (Trivers, 1972)and the physical risks, the potential consequences of engaging in intimate relationships are more profound for women. Therefore, strategies of cautiousness seem beneficial to women (Grammer, 1990; Grammer, Kruck, Juette, & Fink,2000). If this is the case, our findings suggest that cognitive attunements (to attractive opposite-sex people) may not result in concordant behavior when the interpersonal aspects of the situation are more pronounced. That is, the bias of gazing at physically attractive others may be inhibited to prevent undesired outcomes.

the study hypothesizes that women are more covert when it comes to showing their attraction in person as demonstrated here

First, the reported dating desire in the current study indicated that physical attractiveness is as important to women as to men. Second, studies on gazing at pictures of attractive opposite-sex targets show no sex differences in the gazing duration (e.g., Maner et al., 2003, Study 4)

It should be noted that when females gaze at pictures of attractive males they look just as long as males do..

You are just trying to make this study seem like it is completely against the black pill when in reality it isn't. It again increases the nuance of our understanding of female and male mating strategies.

Further, effects of mating-related individual differences might be expected (Penke & Asendorpf,2008; Simpson & Gangestad, 1991). For example, less restricted women might also gaze longer at physically attractive men, since they pursue mating strategies in which short-term mating might be advantageous. The dyadic measures showed results that can be explained by the effects on individual measures of gazing. We found longer instances of eye contact (i.e., mutual gaze) in the low activeness condition, but only for female participants. Therefore, we can argue that this gazing pattern is a result of both (a) longer gazes by confederates in the low attractiveness condition and (b) differences in gaze duration between male participants in the low and high attractiveness conditions. The same reasoning applies to the two main effects of sex and attractiveness.

I also find it interesting that females looking for STRs and lower on the totem pole in attractiveness will engage in longer eye contact probably in desperation to get some D from higher quality mates. I think women generally use eye contact as a sign to approach them more of the covert strategy as mentioned earlier in the study.

You are just trying to make this study seem like it is completely against the black pill when in reality it isn't. It again increases the nuance of our understanding of female and male mating strategies.

Which version of the blackpill?

The one that espouses near godlike powers of handsome men or the one that says physical attractiveness is a good, substantial leg up?

I also find it interesting that females looking for STRs and lower on the totem pole in attractiveness will engage in longer eye contact probably in desperation to get some D from higher quality mates.

The study just says that women in the less attractive condition had more instances of mutually gazing at the confederate. So I'm not sure how you're reading that they "engaged in longer eye contact" as a function of the male confederate's attractiveness, which the study specifically states that those two variables are uncorrelated.

Furthermore, the correlations between dating desire and mean gaze duration were positive and significant for men,r(58) =.28 p\.05, but not for women, r(57) =-.06, ns, suggesting that men’s, as opposed to women’s, gazing to some extent was functionally related to attraction

In conclusion, although beauty catches the eye in contexts with minimal social character, when a man and a woman meet, an additional process seems to moderate the visual attention that is initially attracted by physical aesthetics. This conclusion emphasizes the importance of including real-life interactions and behavioral observations when investigating human mating-related behavior.

come on man I think you and i have debated enough to where you know where I stand on that but if you are seriously unsure I will reiterate that its the latter not the former in regards to where I stand.

he study just says that women in the less attractive condition had more instances of mutually gazing at the confederate. So I'm not sure how you're reading that they "engaged in longer eye contact" as a function of the male confederate's attractiveness,

"I also find it interesting that females looking for STRs and lower on the totem pole in attractiveness will engage in longer eye contact probably in desperation to get some D from higher quality mates."

I made my own assertion based on the theory the researchers gave as to why attractiveness is not correlated in person as opposed to seeing attractive male pictures. if you read what part of the study I quoted you would understand that a)the reason given as to why attractiveness of a male is not correlated to gaze duration of a women in person has to do with mate strategy in that women are more covert in gazing duration. Women when looking at attractive male pictures gaze the same amount as men do showing that there is a correlation when not in person to attractiveness and gaze duration. b) since women are generally trying to be covert and hide their gaze when in person it makes sense that the uglier a girl is the more obvious she has to be in order to get the attention of males.

though yes you are correct it is not explicitly stated that women who mutually gaze longer are gazing at attractive vs. unattractive men. I was making that assumption based on the prior experiments conducted on female gazing at attractive male pictures.

Furthermore, the correlations between dating desire and mean gaze duration were positive and significant for men,r(58) =.28 p\.05, but not for women, r(57) =-.06, ns, suggesting that men’s, as opposed to women’s, gazing to some extent was functionally related to attraction

I understand. however it isn't stated if females who are unattractive are mutually gazing at unattractive or attractive males longer than mutually gazing unattractive males. I suggested that they were based on the reasons stated above.

In conclusion, although beauty catches the eye in contexts with minimal social character, when a man and a woman meet, an additional process seems to moderate the visual attention that is initially attracted by physical aesthetics\*.

again the additional processes that seem to moderate the visual attention that is initially attracted by physical aesthetics is hypothesized to be

We explained the sex differences in gazing at physically attractive targets by linking them to sex differentiated attraction communication. That is, the bias of gazing at physically attractive others may be inhibited to prevent undesired outcomes.

generally I agree with their hypothesis as to why females do not show longer gazing patterns in person as opposed to in private looking at photos of attractive men (which was shown to be the same gazing duration patterns of men.)

To rephrase the salient point established here a bit more clearly:

Maintained mutual gaze can increase the attractiveness of a male to a female.

If a man maintains sustained eye contact with a woman, she finds him more attractive. This is, of course, providing that she finds him initially physically attractive enough to join him in sustained eye contact to begin with.

[–]Ohyarlysmiles[S] 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

From a mating strategy perspective, we hypothesized that men's increased dating desire towards highly attractive confederates would lead to longer periods of gazing, whereas women's gazing would be less influenced by their dating desire towards highly attractive confederates. Results confirmed our hypothesis, with significantly increased gazing for men in the high attractiveness condition but no significant differences in women in the two attractiveness conditions.

In my experience no anybody who has lost tons of weight or became hot can tell you no women are far more shallow than men by a mile. There is a better study on this that still says women spend milliseconds longer on better looking men but, the more attractive you are the more looks you get overall regardless.
