The man I’m seeing puts in no effort.

I’ll try and make this quick. My (F22) birthday was 2 days ago. One of the men (31M) I’m dating (6 months) has been asking me for well over a month what I wanted for my bday. I asked for a purse & perfume.

I know what scents work well on my skin and what don’t. So he asked that I send him suggestions.

I sent a total of 5 purse suggestions as well as 5 perfumes.. on my list of perfumes, I listed Baccarat 540 Rouge as I’d just recently ran out and would’ve been delighted to not have to spend another $325 on a single bottle.

He hadn’t made a single plan so I instead went to dinner with friends the night of and he got mad about this saying I didn’t invite him.

The following day he calls me telling me he’s at the mall …. Not only did he not get me anything I wanted but he started gift shopping the day AFTER my birthday??

I see him that night, so last night, and we go to dinner… he presents me with my gifts and of course I thank him but he got me a $400 bottle of tequila??? and this offensive smelling $300 perfume? (He literally is sitting there telling me the prices, I didn’t ask)

I’ve realized he’s the type to just see the price of things and grab them.

Today he asks if I truly liked the perfume & I felt bad and politely told him that it didn’t sit well on my skin, and that one of my 5 suggestions would’ve been suitable.

Literally every other perfume on that list other than baccarat was under $120… so it definitely wasn’t about the cost.

He sighs and goes I’ll go buy you the other one then but I assure him that he doesn’t have to.

What is it with men? Or this man in particular?

Oh god and the most annoying part, after dinner he tries getting me drunk with the bottle he gifted me after I specifically mentioned I’d save it for a special occasion like New Years or something….

It sounds like I’m materialistic but I swear I’m not it’s just like what was the point in asking me if you were going to deliberately ignore EVERY suggestion. I don’t get it.

TLDR: man I’m dating didn’t make birthday plans.. asked me for birthday gift suggestions only to ignore every one. I’ve gotten him random small thoughtful gifts on random days of the week because I like to see him happy but for ONE DAY on my birthday he can’t do simple shit. Oh and he didn’t start shopping till the day after my birthday ……
