Conservation used to be a concern for both men and women. When did "sustainability" come to be more popular with women than men?

I'm not buying the argument in the article that it's because domestic violence goes up after extreme weather events. That connection feels like a really long bow to draw.

But there's definitely something to the argument that it's about selling to the person who is most likely to make buying decisions for the home. Most of the "sustainability" industry has been about getting people to buy different things, rather than fewer things.

For non-Canadians, this is a major Canadian news organization. It may be an opinion piece but I still don’t think it’s morally correct to publish this type of opinion.

It speaks to the kind of organisation that John Marshall is advertising. I don't think this is a real opinion piece as much as PR. It seems to be promoting the "Potential Energy Coalition", which presents climate change as a "marketing problem". You can draw your own conclusions about how effective adopting corporate strategies are to raising awareness of climate change, but based on the relative ineffectiveness of news media, I am skeptical. Gender only has relevance if you consider that women are more receptive to (or more targeted by, depending on your perspective) "traditional" advertising.

A good point of contrast would be the Extinction Rebellion movement, which as far as I know doesn't discuss gender as much as the importance of the collective action of everyone.

Women are far more likely to believe a vegan diet is healthful. A big part of climate change is getting rid of traditional farming.

It's hard to tell whether these people believe what they are saying or if it's just an excuse to make money. In this case I don't mean the climate change issue itself, but all those "how to" address it.

There is an army of them around any social cause. They write articles, sell books, make conferences, offer consulting services, have patreon accounts, etc.

I'm not surprised when they link climate change to women empowerment. Both things are priorities now, so it would be a pity to not take advantage of this opportunity.

Nowadays is relatively easy to make a living out of this "activism". Anyone can publish a book, open a patreon account, build a website, etc. with very a small investment -or even none at all, just dedicating time to it.

Of course you're free to make money out of your activism -it's legal-. The problem is that it's unclear if you're doing it for money (and only for money).
