"#MeToo is over if we don’t listen to ‘imperfect victims’ like Amber Heard"; Gross article denies Men can be victims of abuse & encourages people to never believe Men. Individuals such as this are why so many Men feel uncomfortable about opening up or seeking support.

The article presents a feminist viewpoint, of course.

Men don't respond negatively to being called "toxic" because it's an insult, but because it somehow makes them feel more like women.

I'm not kidding. That's what the reasoning is.

I’ve often joked about no amount of ”mental gymnastics” are too much to make men the villains but.. this one.. wow lol.

It’s not inadvertent division; it’s intentional.

[–]throwawayddf 7 points8 points9 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Came to say this, saw yours and still had to comment cause this title is intentional misleading. Only someone with an agenda would say this. Obviously it's dividing and it's meant to be so, indeed.

"the use of terms like 'toxic masculinity' could be inadvertently widening gender divisions"

No shit, Sherlock.

[–]throwawayddf 12 points13 points14 points 4 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

No you are wrong because its not inadvertently!

[–]auMatech 5 points6 points7 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

yeah, but then i would have had to reconstruct the quote instead of simply commenting on the quote in the title...

[–]throwawayddf 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

It's fine I was just working out some anger over the title didn't down vote you or anything

[–]auMatech 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

all good mate, no worries

[–]men_first 21 points22 points23 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

We should create a counter for "Toxic Femininity" usage by Feminists, it will be set to zero and then stay at zero forever, because to Feminists Female = Perfect and Male = "Root of all evil"

[–]MrElderwood 17 points18 points19 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I've seen a lot of pushback to that idea, as a lot of men don't want to 'play dirty' or 'stoop to their level', which I kinda understand.

It's hard to call out hypocrisy if you are party to it yourself.

[–]ImplodedPotatoSalad 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

So, just feminity.

“Inadvertently”? Fuck off!

“Instead of casually using labels such as toxic masculinity, which imply these problems are endemic to manhood, we may be able to better address these issues by focusing on specific toxic behaviors such as sexual harassment”

This I can agree on. Sexual harassment is toxic, but in no way related to masculinity.

Or to any one gender, either.

[–]rSlashGigi 3 points4 points5 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Exactly. We all resent it regardless of anything. Thanks for finishing that :)

[–]MrElderwood 12 points13 points14 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

'Inadvertently'... Hmmm...

the use of terms like 'toxic masculinity' could be inadvertently widening gender divisions

No shit, Sherlock, Poirot, Marlowe and Dupin.

I avoid using the word "toxic" in this sort of context because it's so often applied to concepts that people don't like but to which they can't actually articulate a concrete objection. Still, for whatever meaning it has here:

I recognise the fine dividing line between the claim that, say, "masculinity is toxic" and "some aspects of masculinity are toxic," inasmuch as there are probably toxic aspects to anything, including femininity. The problem is that some harder-core feminists tend to justify the statement with the latter while using it to mean the former, which is a straightforward bait and switch. That's what people are objecting to.

As someone else said below, the amount of mental gymnastics being used to justify outrageous generalisations here is astounding.

Feminists says HI? I don't like it.

[–]Mythandros 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

facepalm

That's because terms like that are DESIGNED to widen gender divisions.

[+]Svenskbtch -6 points-5 points-4 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

This seems clear to me. As a teenager, I think it is much worse for a guy to be called a fag than for a woman to be called butch. Well, not sure about todays teenagers - things are changing fast for the better, but still. Masculinity is fragile (meant in a compassionate sense).

[–]ImplodedPotatoSalad 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Masculinity is never fragile, by definition.
