You're missing rollos point on hypergamy. It's not that she is always looking to trade up, it's that she is capable of doing so, especially during rough patches or a loss of confidence. If you look into the research he's referencing, guys like Dr. Bus find that when women find their 'best option' they actively find other men less attractive, and when they are waning in love they tend to find other men more appealing.

the heart wants what it wants, it's reactive to the environment, not proactive like you're suggesting.

think of it this way 'she's fiercely loyal to one guy at a time, the one she considers her best option' and while it's not a guarantee of lifetime fidelity, it's also not just a constant ruthless climb.

The thing I dislike about the hypergamy take is that it's still filtered through a male perspective. Men are conditioned to think of life as a competition and that they can somehow be the best, that's what matters. So when men see women being fickle and trading out partners, that's what a man sees, I can be better somehow and do better.

While I wouldn't say that being better never matters, women are less concerned with being better. Women themselves do not have to compete to have sex, the average woman can get all she wants. Average woman. One of billions, she's going to be fine. So they don't have to compete the way men do. So their narrative is more what am I feeling right now, not what persona do I have to achieve to get laid.

Suppose both your and your female LTR partner are overweight. If she loses weight and you don't, yeah you might be vulnerable there. But if you lose weight and she doesn't, she might be sad because now you are making her look bad, and she could leave you for another fat guy. That is how they think.

You can be the best catch in her group of friends, and her friends start slamming you because her friends are scuzzy and they want to bring her down to their level. So she dumps you for a worse guy to fit in with them. That is how they think. They take their cues from their own emotions and other women a lot, and their decisions often don't fit the template of "doing better" the way a man thinks.

So I guess you can learn to game your woman by constantly flipping strategies, but the question is if your game is that tight, why limit yourself to one woman?

So yeah, I see the whole LTR universe continuing to decline until women learn again to trade off their emotionalism for actually being in a relationship. Which they are fully capable of doing, women are highly adaptable to new cultural norms.
