What is the "real" way for wives to relate well with their husbands? I went into marriage under the impression that the typical things are true: that two people in love should be able to share their thoughts, hopes, dreams, etc. and converse freely. But the reality of it seems different. Because men and women are different, we value different things, have different tastes and interests. I have often found myself feeling horribly shut down when I try to share things with my husband (whether its my projects or things I like) because he thinks they are stupid and will say so. I started being more honest with him in the same way when he shared things with me, and it turns out I find a lot of mens' things barbaric and unnecessarily selfish or cruel, because I am a girl. So the philosophy of just sharing things and having common interests isn't working. Truly, we just do not have any common interests or tastes or approaches, but that isn't surprising when you accept that men and women actually are different types of beings. But now I'm at a loss and am unsure of how to even talk with him. Conversations go sideways so quickly, it feels like a series of jabs at each other, because we are not on the same page (how can someone of the opposite sex ever be on the same page as you?) ... He puts me down ("stupid"), I put him down ("selfish"), its a bad spiral.
