In all fairness I think you are trying to understand her statement using rational thought, and it is clear she has none. Obviously she is SEVERELY mentally ill. In her mind she may actually believe she was protecting them. You can’t judge her explanation using logic and reason because both of those are tenets of reality, and the mentally ill are defined by their complete disconnect from reality. Ultimately the problem is not that she is crazy, it’s that the courts were so blasé and careless in regard to her mental condition.
