A man wrote on facebook how he was going to expose the Judge who gave sole custody to his abusive wife who then killed their 2 year old son, the judge saw the post and ordered the man arrested for, "malicious use of internet services" he's being held on a half million dollar bail.

Washington Post reporter David Weigel, who apologized last week for retweeting a joke, has been slapped with a one-month unpaid suspension, CNN has reported, citing two unidentified individuals familiar with the issue.

Last week, Weigel retweeted a post that said, "Every girl is bi. You just have to figure out if it’s polar or sexual."

Washington Post reporter Felicia Sonmez shared a screenshot of Weigel's retweet and sarcastically remarked, "Fantastic to work at a news outlet where retweets like this are allowed!"

Weigel undid his retweet and issued an apology: "I just removed a retweet of an offensive joke. I apologize and did not mean to cause any harm."

Washington Post chief communications officer Kristine Coratti Kelly reportedly issued a statement last week that said, "Editors have made clear to the staff that the tweet was reprehensible and demeaning language or actions like that will not be tolerated."

Babylon Bee CEO Seth Dillon has publicly offered Weigel three months of pay if the reporter takes back his apology, reshares the joke, and leaves his job.

"Wapo put u/daveweigel on unpaid leave for a month because of a joke? Dave, I’m offering you 3 months' salary to retract your apology, repost the joke, and quit. Have some respect for yourself," Dillon tweeted.

In response to Sonmez's post about Weigel's joke retweet, Del Real tweeted, "Felicia, we all mess up from time to time. Engaging in repeated and targeted public harassment of a colleague is neither a good look nor is it particularly effective. It turns the language of inclusivity into clout chasing and bullying. I don’t think this is appropriate." In another tweet he added, "Dave’s retweet is terrible and unacceptable. But rallying the internet to attack him for a mistake he made doesn’t actually solve anything. We all mess up in some way or another. There is such a thing as challenging with compassion."

In a tweet on Monday evening, Sonmez wrote, "It's hard for me to understand why the Washington Post hasn't done anything about these tweets, in which one of its employees mischaracterizes his own actions and accuses a colleague of 'clout chasing and bullying' for publicly objecting to sexism. Is this who we are?"

The irony is we see Tweets much worst than this directed toward men all the time and not a single woman has ever been reprimanded due to the Tweets. In fact, they're celebrated among women and the Left in general.

Fuck Felicia Sonmez. What a fucking hypocrit!

That's all the joke? I have known people, not only men but also other women making worse statements about women.

[–]GulchDale -1 points0 points1 point 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Big difference from the randos you know and being a public figure that writes for one of the largest newspapers in the world. Dude should know better to be more careful with what they post to social media.

[–]pacsatonifil 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Really? The things women say about men. Not only that but call straight men homophobic things to question their manhood. Just be equal when morning tv shows say hateful things about men.

[–]Kaiagin 3 points4 points5 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That’s a great joke lol

“Every girl is bi. You just have to figure out if it’s polar or sexual.”

I don't care who you are, that's funny right there.

He should have tweeted "all men are trash!" He would have gotten a promotion then.

A month's unpaid suspension is something I might expect to happen for an allegation of sexual assault at work or something, not a stupid joke on Twitter - which he didn't even write, only retweeted, then retracted, and apologised for!

What do you want him to do, go put himself in the town square guillotine?

I don't know how much he's getting paid (or, rather, no longer getting paid), but let's say for the sake of an example that he's on $40k a year - this is gonna cost him 3 grand. A month's salary. If you don't have savings, and you have a lot of outgoing costs (which admittedly might be a failure to properly budget, but not the point), that could lead to serious issues.

You gonna throw somebody under the bus that hard for a stupid joke that was taken back and an apology issued for?

Maybe you have some issues yourself.

[–]hehimCA 4 points5 points6 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

This is totally insane, but not surprising in this ridiculous world. One month without pay - I'm assuming his pay is higher than 40k, probably at least $120,000, so that would be a $10,000 fine for a retweet and then a retraction? I guess it depends if he's full-time, etc.

And the joke is kind of bad, but I mean come on, really? Is that so offensive? I mean, we've got wars, a global pandemic, school shootings...and this guy gets suspended for a month for THIS?

Please, anyone show me where anything close to this has ever happened to a woman. I would be interested to see it.

This ain't a gender thing, people see consequences all the time for posting stupid shit on social media.

https://careers.workopolis.com/advice/the-social-media-post-that-got-a-woman-fired-before-she-even-started-her-daycare-job/

So I'm reading through these, and perhaps I would have been more specific. I have never heard of a woman being suspended/severely punished for retweeting a dumb anti-male joke. The anti-male part being key. Yes, I agree that social media has consequences in general (racism, nakedness, etc.) So let's look through what you posted.

Example 1: Woman at daycare said I hate working at day care, so they fired her before she started. Was totally job related, not anti-male. And it was an original post of hers, not a repost, share, or retweet.

Example 2: Woman uses swear words after she was accepted at NASA in her posts about the intership she got at NASA, and even doubled down on it. Again, not anti-male, but vulgar language associated with employer. And it was an original post of hers, not a repost, share, or retweet.

Example 3: I saw a whole documentary on this one. She was trying to be ironic and failed, talking about people in Africa and Aids. A horrible joke, taken the wrong way and went viral amongst the woke crowd, but again this was not anti-male. And it was an original post of hers, not a repost, share, or retweet.

So again I ask, when have you ever seen a woman retweet (or share/repost) a dumb anti-male joke and face serious consequences? I have never heard of it, and you have not provided an example. If I'm wrong, I would be surprised, but I will stand corrected. Again, I've never seen it.

Not surprised. Women can’t handle humor. People who get offended at jokes don’t have the capacity to understand them.

[–]hehimCA 4 points5 points6 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

A woman, who is pretty progressive and feminist herself, told me this joke.

Q: "How many feminists does is take to screw in a light bulb?"

A: "That's not funny!"

So if even feminists can realize that other feminists have no sense of humor, I think we can acknowledge it as a real pattern. However I would not agree with "Women can't handle humor" -- that's an over generalization.

[–]Mode1961 4 points5 points6 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Another one

Q: Did you hear they are opening a feminist bookstore down the street

Q: What's the difference between a feminist bookstore and a regular bookstore

A: The feminist bookstore does not have a humour section.

Dang guys. Be careful. I just got a message from Reddit about “promoting hate”. Also funny jokes.

[–]wes67stg 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points8 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Holy fuck. And they say men are the ones who can’t take jokes.

I hope he fights that shit

[–]dcs577 5 points6 points7 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Better to retweet an “offensive” joke than publish a defamatory op-Ed

[+]angryearth 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

The guys twitter is connected to his job and he’s pretty well known. Of course the post is going to cover its ass. It might have to one day prove in court it doesn’t condone a hostile work environment for women.

Women are supposed to “get” dad jokes about how crazy we are but dudes can’t understand why the jokes belong at a poker game with beers and cigars.

[–]GulchDale 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

No shit, all the children here can't understand the responsibility of working a public facing position. Fair or not, everything you post will be scrutinized heavily and even if you have to squint to find it offensive your company will work to cover it's ass.

And I could never imagine someone telling that joke in a professional workspace and someone not being offended. The fact that some people thinks that is professional behavior says more about the demographic of the posters here.

[–]diamondDizzle123 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Even there tho I bet some women want involved and when there get all offended it’s no wonder men don’t invite and want their own space but no one will allow it

[–]diamondDizzle123 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I really hope the tide turns and every man pulls up all women’s transgressions from even the most minor and really lobbies the courts for complete fairness. Let’s see how it feels when the court of public opinion ruins these bitches lives. Horrible people. That’s a funny joke! Anyone with a sense of humour can see it’s not serious. Time to boycott any company who takes these drastic measures.

[–]Practical-Rip6471 -1 points0 points1 point 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Strangely enough it's mainly either one or the other out of their mouths, but now they find it offensive. Fake outrage.

[–]hehimCA -1 points0 points1 point 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I think being a comic these days would be the hardest job. You can't say anything anymore. I'm not saying that this was a particularly good joke/tweet, in fact I don't think it is. However, my gosh, people need to get some perspective in life.

[–]GulchDale 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

FYI, comedians back in the day got arrested for saying offensive shit. This isn't some new phenomena. George Carlin got arrested for his 7 dirty words bit. Lenny Bruce got arrested a bunch of times for his act. Nowadays I don't see any comedian getting arrested for telling offensive jokes.

[–]MNDOOOM -1 points0 points1 point 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That’s really funny, only weirdos wouldn’t find that funny
