I have no problem with this, provided that the new regulations are written to be completely gender neutral. Menstrual pain should be treated equivalent to the same level of pain in other parts of the body.

[–]Majestic_Fartsniffer -2 points-1 points0 points 4 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

Gender differences have to accomodate help based on need. This discussion shouldn't be "if they get X, then I should get Y". These are people that need help. Let's offer our support. I doubt the kindness wouldn't be reciprocated in our time of need.

We're so hardwired to avoid asking for help...

How much better would my life be, if I had 1 therapy session a month, paid for by the company I work at. But we would never admit that we need that. We use too much of our time trying to apprar stronger than we are, instead of pushing for a sistem that allows us to improve our health and wellbeing.

What place do we have negatively addressing another person's need for help? What level of entitlement is that?!? Thinking that "they should get X, if I also get Y"

That's a shitty way to treat people.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

This discussion could be "if they get a day off because of pain, I should also get a day off because of pain"

There's no need to get different privileges based on the place where it is hurting, or based on gender.

[–]Majestic_Fartsniffer -2 points-1 points0 points 4 years ago* (6 children) | Copy Link

No. That's rhe problem. Why should you get anything if someone else is getting something?

The very fact that you call "help", "priviledge" speaks volumes about your hardwiring. Its not ok.

Did you afirm a need? Is your need corelated to the physiology of the opposite gender?

How is this in any way related to you, that you find yourself in a point of authority and validity to condition another gender's ability to get help?!?

If you need help, seek help. Fuck it, i don't know you but i'll protest for you from the other side of the world. Why must we condition other people's ability to get help or live a better life?! This attempt at "fairness" does the exact opposite. It creates unfairness and reeks of spite.

Why can't we independently seek the help we require without contstantly finding a reason to put other people down?

Can't you see what this is doing? We could be spending all this time helping eachother and yet here we are, calling a genuine request for help as a "priviledge"... As something we need to even out...

This isn't a contest. Why is there a competitive behaviour present?

Name one good thing that can come out of that "help is a priviledge" mindset.

Make it make sense brother!

[Edited my shitty grammar]

I think you think we are on the wrong path, the problem with this rule is that when i feel down as a man because of my depressions i still have to go to work. Thats what (i think) we want to change.

EDIT: With Depression i dont mean "Oh im a bit sad today", no i mean Depression, something that can hurt your mental health and sometimes put your live in danger.

[–]Majestic_Fartsniffer 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

And change it we should! Fight for it we should! We can find solutions. We have before, and it wasn't at the cost of anothet gender's ability to do the same.

But not like this. Not by trying to morally gatekeep someone else's right to better health. We can't start this with "if you get X, then I also get X".

That ain't right!

We can't be getting upset when someone else get a solution that helps improve their health. That's not a healthy mindset.

We're not being kept away from better health. No one's sitting in the door, keeping us from reaching better health, except often times, our own selves.

We live in communities. Nothing good comes out of acting in the way people have been acting in this thread. Unless people think that by acting competitive, angry and defensive, we can reach solutions we otherwise couldnt.

That entire behaviour makes us sick. We don't find better health this way, but quite the opposite. We make our health take a bad turn.

That bundle of emotions, within this particular context is very unhealthy!

[–]Majestic_Fartsniffer 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Help me understand how calling someone else's ability to get help, "a priviledge" and trying to gatekeep their ability to seek help, is not bullying behaviour.

Do you feel that's been done to you? If yes, why?

Where are the people keeping you from achieving better health? Who are they? What did they do?

Would you, if you're comfortable with it, be so kind as to share some examples?

[–]MrGreenster1 points 4 years ago [recovered] (1 child) | Copy Link

Nobody said its a priviledge. Who said its a priviledge. All we are saying is that men also should get a day of in the month, when women are getting the same ofcorse. Because of you go equal then a full 100%, and not giving the one extra leave while you forget about the other side of the blade.

[–]Majestic_Fartsniffer 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

They did, above. Someone else's comment. Unfamiliar with quote or comment copying mechanic in reddit, but if you scroll up in the thread, you'll fin a small comment that mentions priviledge.

Again...why should men get something because women get something?

That's not equality. Equality would have us replicate their process, not expect a duplicate reward of a process we did not follow.

Why are you treating this as a competiton?

Everyone here is obsessed with forcing people to give them something because someone else is getting something.

How the hell is that equality? Did women create a petiton for this day off at the expense of testicular cancer research and funding?!?

"If you get X, then I must get Y, as a form of equality!".

By far one of the most irreaponsible and toxic ideas to come out this generation of men.

We treat society like an absent parent, and try to guilt trip it into getting us a present on our sister's birthday.

Nothing about this is healthy. We're not creating a paralel petition.

We're not reaching out to NGO's or women's groups to learn about how they made their needs visible and socially relevant so that we can do the same and increase our odds of finding better health.

No. We huddle up in toxic resentfull groups and gatekeep or demand some weird social reciprocity despite not lifting a damned finger.

Go on then. Let this mindset take over. Let it make you sick, confused and angry.

If we wanted better health, we'd be open to learning. We'd be kind and accepting. We'd move towards a healthier mindset with peace and respect in our hearts.

But if we wanted to lash out, to pick a readily available target for our negative emotions, for our feelings of being ignored or mistreated, we'd do exactly what's being done in this forum.

So I ask again.

If we want better health, how is this mindset helping?

Make it make sense brother!

Changing comment order.

[–]NutsLikeMelons 13 points14 points15 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It’s called sick leave.

[–]Hanlonodavid78 7 points8 points9 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Oh no , how will houses , roads, infrastructure be built with all this menstrual leave. I want my back is broke leave.

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points7 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It’s time for laborers to demand that the government stop subsidizing white collar careers that favor women over blue collar jobs that men are more capable of doing. There’s no reason that a professor of sociology makes more money for less demanding work than a guy building a house or jack hammering concrete. But the government throws a ton of money at education, and over-inflates the cost of education and the value of the teachers that way. A ton of money also goes toward the field of medicine, which is rapidly being taken over by females.

[–]OldEgalitarianMRA 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I do have a very bad back and I could have used a few days off a month to be out of pain. It would have been a relief.

If you need time off for a medical problem like endometriosis, you can get a letter from your doctor and get medical time off.

Otherwise this is a power play and a hill I'm not interested in dying on.

[–]Cadillac_Frank 9 points10 points11 points 4 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

That’s ok, I’ll just identify as a woman and take the time off every month because bigots can’t say I’m not a woman.

[–]Werwet10 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Nope...they can. I've read somewhere that they use terms like period havers or something

[–]Typhooni 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I am having a period every month where I gender swap.

[–]Uno_mister_red -2 points-1 points0 points 4 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

You can't just decide one day to be a woman. I think there's all kind of hormone drugs you've got to take, and the old chap will have to go as well. Go through all that just for a few extra days off a month, bit extreme isn't it.

[–]Cadillac_Frank 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Not keeping up with current gender politics are you ?

You can literally “identify” as a woman today, a man tomorrow and a human/animal hybrid the third day.

Do you not read the news ?

[–]Uno_mister_red -2 points-1 points0 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I don't get my news from daft conspiracy podcasts if that's what you mean.

A human/animal hybrid you say. Now that's a different matter. Your damm fucking right tomorrow I'm identifying as a lion.

[–]Cadillac_Frank 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

No I mean the actual news, you know legacy media that keeps pushing the gender political debate down everyone’s throat.

[–]Uno_mister_red 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

No I don't seem to be getting that when I watch the news. To be honest the times when I hear things like 'gender political debate', it's the right wing that's bringing it up. Nobody is pushing anything down your throat, your doing that to yourself. Why are you people so obsessed with the trans community.

[–]Huffers1010 6 points7 points8 points 4 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

The big problem with this is that it completely legitimises the (wrong) idea that women are less capable of work than men are.

If women need more time off to deal with things that are directly and unequivocally the result of being a woman then there's a perfectly serviceable (if revolting) argument that they're less worthwhile employees.

I don't think most women want that argument to get any support...

[–]DavidByron2 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yes, it's saying women are physically handicapped.

If that's true employers may be able to pay them less - since they may not be able to do the work of a regular adult.

[–]mikesteane 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Women are less willing to work than men. They don't have the same motivation or drive. And that will not be changed because it is politically incorrect to say so.

[–]Huffers1010 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It barely matters what women or men in general are willing or capable of doing. The way I'd put it is that on average men and women have different priorities which may manifest itself in the way you describe for certain values of the word "work", but who cares. What we should be pushing for is equal treatment for everyone, so anyone who does want to put in the graft gets a reasonable chance at the bigtime.

Personally I think this is a non-issue on the basis it can be dealt with like any other sort of sick leave. If that's not the case, then change things so it is; don't call it "period leave" or any related term because you're then stigmatising periods in a way I suspect people won't like...

[–]OneDumbPony 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Its specifically talking about women who have painful periods as a result of hormone issues, endometriosis, PCOS, etc. Its not about all women who bleed. (Both endometriosis and PCOS affect 1/10 women and it can take up to 10 years to get an ENDO diagnosis with 8 years being the average because "painful periods are normal" and doctors won't listen.)

[–]Huffers1010 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Its specifically talking about women who have painful periods as a result of hormone issues, endometriosis, PCOS, etc

I think the assumption is supposed to be that it's talking about that. If you actually look at the details it actually isn't very specific about what it's talking about, which I think is probably part of the reason it's got such a reaction.

There's a need to be very, very specific and careful when discussing this stuff so people don't get the wrong idea. In this instance people have made some very sweeping statements in a way that's a very, very bad idea for women and men and that's why there's controversy.

[–]OneDumbPony 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I think there's is controversy because people believe women are going to get "free" leave regardless of pain when really its just so that doctors, teachers, and employers take period pain more seriously. Both Japan and South Korea have some form of menstrual leave and it isn't an issue for them. I don't think this is going to be more abused than other chronic pain issues like headaches/migraines.

[–]Huffers1010 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Well, that's exactly the problem. If it's an additional category of leave, then they are. That's what you don't want.

As so often, the proper solution here is to, well, enforce existing law. Sick leave exists already. Then nobody's getting special treatment, nobody looks "disabled," and the downsides are minimised to the greatest degree possible.

The problem here is that I fear this is being pushed for by the sort of people who make feminism into a religion and don't often think about what the second- and third-order consequences of it are, and it isn't a very bright thing to do.

[–]Obsidian_Koilz 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

This should also apply to men who suffer peyronies, Balanitis, priapism, lymphatic filariasis (effects the genitals as well) Inguinal hernias, hematocele, and spermatocele.

There was a gentleman on a subreddit who spoke of how altering and painful peyronies is. I believe that the menstrual leave time should also apply to gentlemen with those same issues.

Peyronies is a condition where plaque, or fibrous hard lumps forms in the penis and causes pain as well as bending and curving.

Fibroid tumors are benign hardened lumps of fibrous tissue that may be in the fallopian tubes, cervix, uterus, and surrounding tissue. Causes acute pains (especially during hormonal changes like menstrual cycle) excessive bleeding, and (may) make child birth impossible or difficult.

Those two situations are of a similar nature as to how they both cause pain, are in very sensitive reproductive places, and disturb the well-being of the individual suffering them.

If they are going to give a menstrual leave to women- it needs to take into account that men too have extremely painful equivalents and MUST be included in the creation of this new "benefit". - They must also find a new name for the leave once the consideration for all the above brings inclusion for men's penile health issues.

[–]Majestic_Fartsniffer 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

What does women needing A, have to do with men needing B? Why can't we have both? Why is it thag everything has to be turned into a "us vs them" all the god damned time.

"If women get this, I should also get this".

No. "I should get this." has and should have ansolutely nothing to do with what benefits anyone else has. If you want something, don't seek to drag someone by their sleeve in the hopes they pull you up...

Ask them how they got there and make your own plan.

Christ.

Everh damned time its some dude out there treating it like a fight.

Haven't you all had enough of that shit? How many more decades of aggressive thinking do we need before we realize we're lighting our own asses on fire and then complaining about the burn?

Sorry, person above me. I'm not fighting you as much as the mindset you displayed kn your commend.

Hope you have a good day.

Cheers brother!

I better get paid leave for when I get blue balls. That shit is painfully af

[–]Rocco3143TheCringe -1 points0 points1 point 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Litteraly no problem with this.

[–]DavidByron2 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

In case you though feminism was ever honest, obviously anyone in severe pain, or even moderate or low pain, can use regular sick leave in the UK, regardless of the source or suspected source of the pain.

Just lying manipulative special pleading for women to have extra rights.
