"A man whose partner used a broken dinner plate to kill him had "stayed silent" about the abuse he faced, according to his friends. The friends set up the Paul Lavelle Foundation, encouraging more men to speak out about their experiences of domestic abuse."

"#MeToo is over if we don’t listen to ‘imperfect victims’ like Amber Heard"; Gross article denies Men can be victims of abuse & encourages people to never believe Men. Individuals such as this are why so many Men feel uncomfortable about opening up or seeking support.

If it takes this much pain & suffering for someone as wealthy/famous as Johnny Depp to get justice, imagine the amount of struggling the average man goes through in a False Accusation

Men are commonly blamed for pushing harmful stereotypes onto boys. Study shows its actually the mothers.

[–]ABeeBox 113 points114 points115 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Just read of a man getting 25 years for attempted homicide. This woman committed actual homicide and only got 7.

If roles were reversed would it have been the same sentence?

[–]JayMeadows 51 points52 points53 points 4 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

I don't think so...

Man kills woman; Either +20 or Life.

Woman kills man; idk. -20 > Life.

[–]ImplodedPotatoSalad 27 points28 points29 points 4 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Woman kills a man: gets named a feminist hero, and gets an organisation named after her. Case in point: Asata Shakur.

Wait what?

[–]GodBirb 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Up for debate whether she was doing the right thing or not (probably not imo), but she killed a state trooper as part of a black liberation group.

No unfortunately ot quite common for women to serve less time in prions then men something like 1/3 of their time.

Yeah, if roles were reversed, she would get 5 according to this

[–]xsplizzle 15 points16 points17 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

not guilty by way of diminished responsibility vs left Mr Lavelle to slowly bleed to death

yea, totally the same.

Society: Laughs at men being raped, abused, and accused

Men: Avoid humiliation so they don't report, then stuff like this happens

Society: *Surprised Pikachu face* Best I can do is tots and pears

Foundations are great, but we as a species are sincerely fucked up, and more than positivity, we need a force to call attention to that fact.

[–]Sensitive-Ad6609 16 points17 points18 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I agree. This happening and the sentencing... what in the hell..

[–]JayMeadows 13 points14 points15 points 4 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Maybe if someone pulled a "Ghandi Gandhi" for Men's Rights?

I mean, it kinda worked for him in getting attention. Didn't really do shit, but it's a start...

[–]GANDHI-BOT 13 points14 points15 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

In the middle of difficulty lies opportunity. Just so you know, the correct spelling is Gandhi.

There was a story of a man who lit himself on fire in front of a courthouse, I believe it was related to custody as well.

We've made no progress.

Also society: men should speak up more about their experiences and gain more awareness but they don’t because of their toxic masculinity

[–]vaaralinen 8 points9 points10 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Society: yep, that proves what a fragile snowflake is a man's ego, let's mock them even more.

Screw society.

because of their toxic masculinity

Exactly, and that we're not high enough on the victim hierarchy to warrant attention, because despite our problems, we're still privileged men after all.

From another article I found:

"Judge David Aubrey, QC, sentencing, said he was satisfied Mr Lavelle had not tried to harm Lewis during the incident on May 27.

He told (Sarah) Lewis: 'It was a sad and unusual death and no-one would have expected him to die from that injury, but he did, and you and no-one else bear full responsibility.'

wut.

[–]Alexandruzatic 29 points30 points31 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I had a stroke trying to find the logic

[–]skellious 27 points28 points29 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

No one would have expected him to die from it?

the law doesn't (theoretically) care about that. it's been proven in case law that if you attack someone and intend only a minor wound, but that due to the person's physiology or other subsequent incidents they die, you are held responsible as the instigating cause.

The UK is institutionally anti male, Well anti working class, Lower working class male.

Anti child, anti baby, The system is filled with evil, incompetent people, I've dealt with them my entire life, It's the whole class system, All of it, Every single position is filled with a person that would be nothing if they weren't paid exorbitant salaries to do the terrible jobs they do, As badly as they do.

The problem is most men are too decent to face the truth of the predicament we are in.

You'll miss us when we are gone

A meme with news title "A man from Nizhnekamsk, whose girlfriend stabbed him with a knife 15 times, proposes to her in court" (you can easily google the original with that) was spread in Russia in humorous, meme social pages. And I'm not such a SJW or anything to think people aren't allowed to laugh at news, I also made jokes like "literally me" (because my abusive ex was from the same city and it really felt relatable), and news titles really can sound funny. But would anyone be allowed to laugh or even think about it if the roles were reversed? And could such a situation even happen, where a man STABS his girlfriend several times, she proposes to him? It's already hard to imagine a woman simply proposing to a man.

[–]Activedepravity 20 points21 points22 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I'm sure she was just upset that no one believed her.

We must remember to Believe all women.

[–]Razorbladekandyfan 5 points6 points7 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Nothing will come of this im afraid. Ive been hearing about stuff like that since at least 2017 and the culture has been getting more anti-male rapidly.

[–]needalife94 4 points5 points6 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Huh, probably won't see this going around on social media like you would if the victim was female.

[+]BadMoodAftermath 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
