At work today working on newstand, we got the newest issue in of the Horror magazine Rue Morgue (the May/June 2022 one to be exact) and in it was an article on a movie called Watcher. It concerns a woman being stalked by a serial killer in fear of her life. The director (who's a woman) mentions in the article it's her hope that the movie will help male viewers to experience the same fears as women out in the world. This is redundant because men are just as vulnerable as woman are and can be and are victims of violent crimes. Men and women equally are victims and there's plenty of female perpetraitors of violent crimes just like men, but as usual, the director is focusing purely only when it's male-on-female and making out something like being stalked by a serial killer to be something exclusive to women.

I'm so tired and fed up with this narrative. Even if women may be slightly more prone to things like being murdered, stalked, harassed, raped, etc. these things still happen to many men on a regular basis and there's women who commit them just as much as men do. Innocent women have also been victims of evil, predatory women. Men and women are both victims and both men and women also cause harm to one another. I'm so tired of victimhood being made into a contest between the two genders. Even if one experiences certain incidents more than others, that invalidates and erases what the other experiences? In my book, both innocent men and women who are victims deserve justice, and both male and female criminals deserve punishment.

I'm also so tired of hearing the narrative about women being afraid to be out by themselves. We're all vulnerable. The moment you set foot outside your home, you're vulnerable and you have no way of knowing if you'll run into a bad man or woman who may try to harm you. Even in your home you're vulnerable because a criminal can still break into your home to harm you and steal your valuables. It's such a tired narrative. Continuing to marginalize and downplay the fact women can also be predatory just as much as men and there's innocent men who are just as vulnerable as women. For all we hear about women's safety and how women experience this or that more, men still make up the majority of homicide victims, as well as combat and workplace deaths. But guess what? There's also many women who are murdered and women still die in things like wars, and I care about them as much as the men who've died.
