Female privilege is institutionalized and bolstered by societal norms. Feminists NEVER challenge these advantages.

Courts of law routinely gives women lighter sentences than men for similar crimes. Only women are subject to the draft in times of war. This is institutionalized female advantage.

Women are assumed to be better nurturers and caretakers. If a man is attacked on the street few people, if any, will try to stop it. If a woman is attacked then white knights fall out of the sky to protect her. These are just a few of societal norms that benefit women.

Here's the good faith response: it's not an arms race. It's not about who has it worse. There are both advantages and disadvantages to both being a man and being a woman. There are things to be recognized and fixed without needing to whataboutism.

That being said, MOST of those issues on both sides aren't institutionalized in a sense that there are differences in law or guidelines that say "Men get sentenced X% longer" and no rules saying "no more than Y% of women will be on our board of directors." It's societal attitudes and expectations that impact how people view each other, and as a result, larger systems can produce misogynist or misandrist outcomes.

For example, benevolent sexism is one thing that has institutional level impacts that will never be written down. Women are often seen as more friendly, more nurturing, and better at "soft skills." Additionally, they're often seen as needing protection from and by men. In your example, this means that they have lesser sentencing for similar crimes, or (especially in the case of sexual crimes) incapable of even doing the crimes. But that same benevolent sexism can mean that women are seen as technically incompetent. When they stand up for themselves or exhibit identical self-sufficiency and assertiveness as men, it is seen as being bitchy instead of confident. They're often denied jobs or promotions for lesser qualifies men based on personality, perceptions, and confidence. Even outside of the workplace, women are often denied medical care like hysterectomies and birth control without the approval of a man.

There are other examples and problems we can discuss if you want to get into it, but this is just one facet. I'm mainly just commenting to say this type of post and conversation is largely misguided and unproductive. The existance of unfair advantages and unjust outcomes in one area does not negate issues in other areas. We don't always have to have these conversations in an adversarial context.

There used to be laws that discriminated against women. And before they became a "suspect class," adult women were prevented by banking custom from doing things like opening their own bank accounts or owning their own credit accounts. That prevailed right into the Sixties, but in the Sixties and Seventies the various governments and institutions systematically abolished these rules and customs.

And in the 1970's Affirmative Action made pro-woman discrimination both institutional and systemic. So really the opposite now, but there are still some pre-Boomer women alive that lived under that old regime. But pretty much every woman born after 1945 came into adulthood able to go to universities and borrow money from banks and check into fancy hotels unaccompanied, and every woman born after 1980 has enjoyed special privileges in many regards, such as employment, education, and even in policing with policies such as the Duluth Model.

Why is everything black and white? The existence of this form of female privilege doesn’t mean that other forms of male privilege don’t exist? They don’t have to be equal, obviously this is more severe than the mechanic example I’ve seen in this thread. But the two and exist at the same time as separate problems, one doesn’t take away from the other. I don’t understand this thought process by some that just because it’s worse in some instances, it completely nullifies any arguments for the other side.

Trying to argue against points by being “see here’s an example of X, which is worse than Y, so obviously Y doesn’t exist/matter” is a fallacious argument. Both can be acknowledged, and treated, in different ways

I’ll counter your opinion with: “i believe these advantages exist BECAUSE of the systemic/institutionalised misogyny”

If society didn’t immediately lump women into housewife/caring roles all the time they wouldn’t have the bias that exists when men and women step up in court over a custody battle. If society hadn’t spent years painting women as these fragile, sub human beings then we wouldn’t haven’t to stand here screaming that yes, women can be rapists/pedos/criminals.

So yeah, I do believe misogyny - and sexism in general - is still a systemic issue and will continue to be for a long time because psychology is complex and as much as society has changed publicly, privately held bias’s/beliefs/etc that make up the day to day function of society are yet to be fully shaken.

Articles like this don't really disprove or debunk anything, if anything they are still evidence that the legal system don't look at men and women equally.

In cases like this you can easily see the argument that the justice system infantilizes women and removes their agency. ("Its not really their fault", "it's clearly the man who did this" etc). And while it's easy to see how this is a benefit to women, not all women go through the justice system. For most women, being infantilized or removed of agency is a bad thing.

You're looking at a potential upside of a problem, that only applies to a tiny minority, and using that to mask how the problem can effect the majority.
