Germany also has a similar law: can't have paternity test without the consent of the mother.

Not sure how accurate it is, but I read a study that suggested that up to 15% of dads who think their kid's are biologically theirs actually aren't. Truth is nobody wants widespread paternity tests because of the unholy shitshow that it would uncover in literally millions of families.

At the end of the day the govt just wants someone to pay so it's not on the government's dime. Dystopian? Oh yeah. Pragmatic, also yeah...

To be honest, the current French law is more protective of men than many other laws.

The flip side of the DNA test only be possible through court is that women cannot assign paternity on their own, like in so many places where they just declare the father.

In France, there are only two ways to become a father legally: you have wed the mother, or you yourself willingly declare you're the father to the city hall at the birth of a child.

If the mother is married, the husband is the father by law. This is a very ancient law and it's the reason why the bastards of king Louis XIV with Mme de Montespan were officially born without a mother, because she was married to another man...

Currently, a father, married or not, has until the 5th birthday of a child to sue for disolving paternity link. That's when a DNA test can be ordered by a judge.

The flip side is that if a woman wants to make you a father, well she has to sue you to do the same.

And note that since your DNA is your absolute property, a judge cannot force anyone to take a DNA test and will only order one if there's enough suspicion that the kid is/isn't yours.

This means that yeah, for a married man who got cucked, he needs to show enough suspicious facts to have to the judge allow a DNA test on the child.

But on the other hand, this means that a woman who had a one night stand and got pregnant will never be able to show evidence of a relationship to trigger a DNA test.

In short, current french law might suck for cucked husbands, but there's no French man saddled with an unwanted child that he didn't first recognized as his child.

It sure sucks for a married guy who didn't know and learned 5 years down that he wasn't the dad, but it's better than the situation where you get surprise "the test says you're the father" with the accompanying 18 years of child support...

This may be the smartest approach tbh. Since women say they want weddings, give them a religious wedding but sign no papers and do not make it official in front of the government. (Obviously don't do this sneakily and let her know your intentions).

If she refuses and wants a legal wedding then dump her and move on.
