That’s a doctor. Also if you knew how hard seeing people die every day was you’d understand. Maybe you connected with the patient, then they die.

Like imagine if you met a nice guy at the bus stop and talked about sports or whatever for 5 minutes and then he slips into the street and gets run over by the bus and instantly killed… and that’s your day, every day multiple times a day. But you know that living this life prevents one man a day from falling victim to the bus.

This is not narcissistic. If you've never worked in a high stress/emotional position, you have no idea then also what it is like to not be able to grieve and having to push through. This is a woman who lost a patient, is having to stop and try to set aside her own feelings, so she can continue caring of others who are still alive. You want to call her narcissistic for telling herself to pull it together after having lost someone. You are cruel and insensitive and inhuman to expect her to be a superhuman. She cannot grieve and do her job at the same time. Next time you're in the hospital for a long stay, ask your nurse when the last time was she lost someone. Chances are it was recent, and she's still smiling for you.
