"Fathers rights" attorneys is just marketing. They target men because they know that men can pay.

Specifically to Cordell and Cordell, a firm like that is super useful if you are dealing with a multi-jurisdiction divorce (such as military, or the wife absconded with the kids to another state). It's one of the largest divorce firms nationwide, so if you're dealing with multiple states, it's a good consideration.

I'd be worried about it having the opposite affect personally..if they're known as looking out for men in particular how are they seem by a third party arbitrator or judge? Will their offers on your behalf seem like they have extra bias built in?

Are you concerned for your children's safety in her care? If she still generally fit enough to keep them warm and safe and cares about them you're going to have a hard time convincing me of full custody if she's generally high functioning with her vices

Men's divorce specialist is just marketing. It comes down to the individual lawyer representing you. I'm sure C & C have some good attorneys and some bad ones as well. Find a men's divorce group and get rec's from those guys. Generally you either think your lawyer is an idiot who stole money from you and did nothing to help or you think he was awesome.

I would think a divorce attorney that represents women as well may have some sort of bias against men they represent after repeatedly claiming women are always victims.

A divorce attorney represents their client (in this case you). That makes your divorce attorney an "attorney for men". This does not mean they will represent you well. You should ask around, interview a few, etc. More importantly understand the process in your area so you are an informed consumer. Ultimately the ease/speed of the divorce is not really up to you since the other party can (and may) throw the kitchen sink at you to ensure she gets what she wants from the process.

Speaking as a guy in the middle of a horrific dumpster fire divorce, there's only so much the lawyer can do honestly. Lawyers need to represent both so they can be effective. Mine is a case where she's going nuts, but my guy is like "I've represented hundreds of women like your wife, and this is what we do..."

Much more important is finding someone who you feel you can work with. I interviewed about 5 lawyers before I picked my guy, and during that time, my wife kept cranking up the crazy, so I ended up with a guy who's known for winning high-conflict divorces.

I sincerely doubt it. Obviously your lawyer will make a difference, but the most important thing here is the evidence that you have and the steps you take before divorce. You're going to need a lot of evidence, documentation planning and preparation in order to get full custody. Basically all the stars will have to align in your favor. I suggest you not even try for full custody, go for joint but you want primary. Mom can have every other weekend if she has issues, if she has major issues she can have supervised until she's ready for every other weekend. I speak from experience, twice divorced primary custody of my three little girls. In Kansas.
