Your 2019 article does not really talk about the court case that happened this week.

[–]equalRights111 15 points16 points17 points 3 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

But but it’s a FACT CHECK, it must be right…

[–]ithinkmynameismoose 5 points6 points7 points 3 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Fact checks are no longer factual which is concerning.

[–]manicmonkeys 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I think most centrists and conservatives knew that was the inevitable next step of fact checks.

First, they typically fact checked things that actually needed fact checking. That way, they can build rapport with much of the public since when they dig into any given fact check for themselves, it turns up to be at least generally a fair correction/valid point.

Once gaining that general default trust (where over time, less and less people bother so much as clicking on the fact check link, and they trust that the "fact check" stamp is being placed on some fake news story. Then they started shifting to more technicalities, where they fact check a strawman.

More recently, we start seeing fact checks that are increasingly deceptive or false.

Can we fact check the FACT CHECKS?

[+]coffeeinvenice[S] -18 points-17 points-16 points 3 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Neither does any of the mainstream media, and since one previous story on this has turned out to be false, the current one is likely to be false as well. Take note that the moderators of this subreddit seem to have removed the original post, perhaps on the suspicion that it is a false story.

[–]notwhelmed 12 points13 points14 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I am not weighing into whether the current story is correct or not - just that a 2019 fact check article is not relevant to a 2022 news story. Given the story was published on Dec 31, and a brief search finds 2 or 3 other sources, I suspect there is some basis in truth, but again, just flagging that you are not actually fact checking the current story.

[+]coffeeinvenice[S] -17 points-16 points-15 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I suspect there is some basis in truth...

Yeah, yeah, yeah. Let's just leave it there.

the fact check is from 2019 the recent news are after appeals from later, courts gave full custody to the mother including the right to relocate to California where she can force her son to medical castration.

the fact check is from 2019 the recent news are after appeals from later, courts gave full custody to the mother including the right to relocate to California where she can force her son to medical castration.

And as mentioned above, there is no reports of this in any of the mainstream, credible media. In all likelihood AP fact check will be posting something on this shortly, as they did in 2019.

[–]manicmonkeys 7 points8 points9 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

>there is no reports of this in any of the mainstream, credible media.

You think a thing didn't happen if mainstream media didn't report on it. Holy cow. FYI, if a tree falls in the woods and nobody is there to hear it, it actually still does make a noise. It's a silly rhetorical question, not a riddle.

[–]denisc9918 11 points12 points13 points 3 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

AAP and Facebook... a trustworthy pairing.. LOL

[–]coffeeinvenice[S] -5 points-4 points-3 points 3 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

I never mentioned Facebook. Neither the Associated Press, nor CNN, nor Fox News have any mention of this so-called story.

[–]denisc9918 8 points9 points10 points 3 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

You also apparently didn't read the article you referenced.

[–]coffeeinvenice[S] -4 points-3 points-2 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Why would I post something I didn't read.

You claim I mentioned Facebook. Demonstrating that you didn't read what I wrote.

[–]denisc9918 7 points8 points9 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I didn't claim you mentioned anything, I commented on the article you posted.

The last paragraph of the article is..

This is part of The Associated Press’ ongoing effort to fact-check misinformation that is shared widely online, including work with Facebook to identify and reduce the circulation of false stories on the platform.

ADDITIONAL NOTE: a quick search of Google shows there are no reports of this story in any mainstream news websites such as ABC News or CNN.

[–]BPTforever 11 points12 points13 points 3 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

Fair enough and all the better, but why tf would you consider ABC and CNN as unbiaised sources? If there's anything to deduce from the Trump's years is that mainstream medias are manipulating the population.

[–]pm_me_your_buttbulge 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

but why tf would you consider ABC and CNN as unbiaised sources?

As a personal rule, if the main stream isn't covering something very significant that's been out for more than a minute - it makes me question the authenticity.

Doesn't mean they aren't unbiased.

I heard a claim about Obama, I can't remember what and it doesn't matter, that was pretty significant that day. I didn't see anything on NBC, CNN, FOX, or anywhere beyond some extreme right (or was it left?) wing bullshit site. It was fake, ultimately.

Anyways, something like this would absolutely make the news on some website.

Let's assume the left-wing dominates the media and wants to bury this (for reasons). FOX would absolutely come out and say something about how "the left is wanting to make all boys trans" or some bullshit.

This is the advantage of having news sites that play to the extreme, and perhaps the only real advantage, is that they'll jump on shit like this in an instant. Rarely, but it has happened, they'll get caught pulling from online places (like Reddit) and later find out it's fake. It's gotten more rare because they were mocked, and rightfully so, brutally for the laziness.

So if one tries to suppress the other will make it louder. And you think something like this wouldn't make it? As though the media CAN HIDE A COURT CASE?! No way. Absolutely no way.

As we can see, in the linked article, someone lied and made up some bullshit to stir up attention and it worked. To the point the AG had to say something.

[+]coffeeinvenice[S] -14 points-13 points-12 points 3 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

If there's anything to deduce from the Trump's years is that mainstream medias are manipulating the population.

That's a conspiracy opinion, pure and simple.

In any case, ideological inclination is not the point. Mainstream media organizations such as ABC or CNN have the resources, professional ethics and internal policies to fact-check allegations like the ones made by Jeffrey Younger. So does Fox News, and there are no reports of this story in Fox News either.

[–]grump63 6 points7 points8 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It's only a conspiracy if you've already been indoctrinated.

Like are you serious? We literally have the FBI working with Twitter to suppress public speech. You think the far more partisan mainstream media has no collusion with establishment politicians?

[–]BPTforever 8 points9 points10 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Absolutely not. They didn't even hid it. Mainstream media will not hesitate to obfuscate a story to support a narrative.

[–]Jesus_marley 3 points4 points5 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Here's an example. In Canada, a man named Ahmed Borhot was part of a puff piece praising him for giving back to the community as a barber during COVID by a large mainstream news org. Fine.

A couple weeks later, a small "extreme right" news org called Rebel, posted a story about two homosexual men who were threatened and assaulted by Mr. Borhot and his brother (on video no less). None of the "main stream" sources touched the story. Then when it finally became necessary to acknowledge what happened, Global, the org that ran the puff piece initially chose to interview Borhot but not his accusers.

This is how media manipulates narratives.
