How fucking stupid of a society have we become were a select group can claim ownership of a disorder that only they can feel victim to it and somehow someone else who also claims to have the disease but doesn't fit your description of what qualifies for a person to have body dysmorphia is somehow being oppressive.

I think the one talking about trans people and body dysphoria is very different in this than excluding cismen from body dysmorphia.

How I understood their message was, that transmen are facing the fact they do not have the hormonal levels they aspire/need to have, while cismen do, and can get easier access to hormonal therapy if necessary. Had nothing to do with excluding anyone from anything. They are talking about different types of struggles: transmen with gender dysphoria; their body not matching to the male gender.

I'm sorry if I sounded rude, do not mean to. Hopefully I gave some insight!

I'm 5'9 and weigh in at 200 pounds. I have a 32" waist line and around 14-15% body fat and I still to this day cannot look in the mirror without thinking,

"wow, you fat ugly piece of shit. You don't deserve to be loved."

I'm told I have an attractive face, but I can't accept that because I don't look like super man. And for me, anything less than perfection might as well be dirt. All because of how society says a man should be. It's fucking wack.

The shitty part is that I KNOW all of it is bullshit, but I've been conditioned to be this way. Many of us have been.

And what's even worse?? I WOULDNT CHANGE IT BECAUSE IF I DIDNT GUILT MYSELF INTO BEING THE BEST I CAN BE THEN I WOULDNT EVEN BE AS GOOD AS I AM RIGHT NOW!

On one hand, I'm happy I've got the drive to be the best I can be. On the other hand, I hate that no matter how far I've come it'll NEVER be enough.

There's a lot of stuff left out here, especially the "just" bringing up transgenders people testosterone/estrogen levels up to the expected level. Testosterone is not given to men lightly (regardless of how people portray it) because we have, for the most part, a good idea of the negatives and positives.

As for transgender people, as much as activists might not like it, it's important to remember that regardless of what gender you feel like you are doesn't change your sex. And this is very important since giving for example a female (sex) testosterone has terrible side effects because the body is simply not meant to have high levels of testosterone, for them to transition will actually shorten their life expectancy, and that is on top of over potential known and unknown side effects. And we see bad side effects like this for males as well. Even for someone who is actually transgender, transitioning is not a step that you should choose lightly, and I can only hope that they are accurately informed before they make that decision.

As for the original question whether or not cis-men should be offered testosterone to help with body dysmorphia issues, I'd say that it will ultimately be different based on case. It might be an option for extreme cases, but it's important to remember that it might not solve the issue at all (just as it can be the case for people that actually transition, in the case for transgender people). Look at bulimia for example, simply reducing your weight will not solve it, because you already start out with a very skewed perception of your body, and the same is true for many cases of perceived body dysmorphia.

Looks like their 2nd sentence threw you, because they didn’t gatekeep body dysmorphia

they just said testosterone use / purpose in trans people is very ‘’’different’’’ to testosterone use / purpose for cis guys with body dysmorphia

the context and factors surrounding the body dysmorphia cis guys feel is different. Hence why the testosterone treatment isn’t universal, it doesn’t ‘solve’ the issue for cis guys, whereas for trans people it tackles the gender dysphoria part and then in turn body dysmorphia

an example is like, trans ppl take T to change facial structure and deepen voice, and to align their hormone level with that of the average cis man’s. these wouldn’t necessarily be the results a cis man with body dysmorphia would want / he already has the levels of T as the average man

I believe muscle dysmorphia is a big unaddressed problem for men in our society . The estimates about how big the affected population is certainly shocked me and there are huge industries enabling it.

Yes we can, except we don’t whine about it on social media, instead I go and hit the gym to make myself better rather than convincing everyone else that I am the pinacle of male form.

The issue with body dispmorphia in men is that Most of these fitness Influencers you see online took a bunch of steroids to get big. Men see this then are constantly comparing them to the roofed physiques when they can never get there without anabolics. If anything I would say just be lean and get some abs and your good .

I find it honestly just quite amusing and yet sad how much of what the trans people are doing is basically experiments on themselves and then they get studied and still a lot is unknown and poorly studied even after idk how long it has been 60 years or so . Instead of helping them with therapy to get comfortable in their own skin they are paying large amounts to have a downgraded body and infections plus shorter life span 💀 and nobody is talking about it . . I could say some more about the other part of not the lgb but tqia etc basically the alphabet group but thats it

Edit: the fact that some adults who most of them dont have kids and some sadly are parents have ruined their kids bodies secretly should be punished its abuse and the ones trying to push it onto kids . Highly disturbing what the west has created

It's analogous to an anorexic person overeating and becoming healthy because of it, but if a normal weighted person overeats, they become unhealthy because of it. I also know how steroids work, having been a weightlifter for 14 years.

Add up the fact that the comment being responded to is not disagreed with but provided as an explanation why such a dynamic would exist because the person asked for a response to such hypothetical.

You are not getting responses because you're being disingenuous and attributing other people positions they don't hold.
