Not great, but not terrible. The majority of the article frames sabotage of contraception as something men do to women, but admits the reverse occurs as well and advocates that the laws covering it be gender-neutral. It even admits that lying about being on the pill should be included.

I was stunned to see it was written by Amanda Marcotte. That's the nearest thing to even-handedness I've seen from her.

I give it a decent 5/10.

There's no evidence to suggest that women commit reproductive coercion nearly as often as men do, but there are certainly some women out there trying to tie someone down by poking holes in his condoms.

Where is the evidence that men commit reproductive coercion?

A poked hole in a condom is actually the only reason I exist, only my mother did it to my father when she started suspecting he would be leaving her (He was 39 at the time and fresh out of divorce, really only wanted a fling to help him get over is loss. She was 24 and also fresh out of a divorce, but was unable to cope with living on her own and was about 1200 miles away from any family and had a daughter to raise). They got married 8 weeks to the day before I was born and I grew up in a house full of resentment, anger, and constant fighting and bickering. My mother refused to get divorced again because she didn't want to put me through what she was already putting my half-sister through and my dad didn't want to get a divorce because he didn't want to face the very real possibility of losing any rights to see me. My mother was the bread-winner because when I was two, my dad was working construction and injured his back severely, preventing him from being able to work. He was afraid that his fixed income would lose out to my mother's ability to increase her earning potential. The truth is, I only exist because a woman tampered with a man's birth control, trapping him into a life he never wanted. He was a hell of a father, one of my best friends, but he never wanted children and that was a life decision forced on him by someone else and I completely agree that it should be a crime.

I think the real issue here is inequality in abortion, ie men not having the same right to abort legal responsibility of unwanted children. If a woman knew she would have nothing to gain in tampering with a condom , she would be far less likely to do it in the first place.

They are only worried because the laws are gender neutral.

So just as many women as men can possibly be charged with this.

Clicked the link thinking this would be about protecting men from being "trapped". Read first sentence. Vomit.

The article says "15 percent of women visiting family planning clinics reported some kind of reproductive coercion". Yeah, but I'm willing to bet it's mostly men "coercing" women into getting the plan B pill or an abortion.
