They feel underpaid and overworked, mentally superior but underappreciated, and any notion that compensates is attractive. It gives their isolation from zones of power, money, and fame a functional value. Yes, they’re marginal, but that’s because they impart threatening ideas.

The idea of academic administrators and professors picturing themselves as Luke Skywalker figures - pitted against an evil empire of oppressive bourgeois vales - is rather quaint and not without comic potential. And, as we’ve seen, ‘rebellion’ of this kind is often difficult to distinguish from absurdity, psychodrama and reactionary role-play. ... Adversarial role-play of this kind has very little to do with how the world actually is. It does, however, have a great deal to do with how those concerned wish to seem. In order to maintain a self-image of heroic radicalism - and in order to justify funding, influence and status - great leaps of imagination, or paranoia, may be required. Hence the goal posts of persecution tend to move and new and rarer forms of oppression have to be discovered, many of which are curiously invisible to the untrained eye. The rebel academic tends towards extremism, intolerance and absurdity, not because the mainstream of society is becoming more racist, prejudiced, patriarchal or oppressive – but precisely because it isn’t.

Well, feminism has always cherry-picked what they consider "power" in order to exclude women from it so that they can claim they don't have any - and as long as they monopolize the conversation about power and gender, they will be in a position to continue defining terms in a way that benefits them.

I run into this strange sense of being the underdog all the time. Recently a Feminist evoked a Huffington Post poll in support of this idea. It showed that "only" 20% of their readership identified as feminist. What blows my mind is that they believe this is a small number. Only 40% identify as Democrats. Feminism is arguably in the top five largest political movements in the United States--even when we include the two-parties in a two-party system. They have no sense of relative proportion.

Yep. Feminism does not fight the system because it is the system. The leaders of the UN, the governments of the US and EU, etc. are all feminists. Where is the so-called patriarchy they fight against? We just lead the world, we don't have any power, it's teh patriarkee!

What I've come to understand is that feminists don't want to be equal to the majority of males. They want to be equal to the top 1% of all males or top .5% of society as males make up half of society.

If you put the target privileged society as the 1% of males who literally rule the world, then feminism starts to make frightening more sense than it would otherwise. Again, this is just my own interpretation of the current generation of feminism.
