There is no "despite" anything. Being a convicted murderer who lied about killing in self defense is totally separate thing from working a prostitute.

She killed one man in November of 1989, having worked as a prostitute at least since 1987. That killing is the only one she claimed in self defense, but was still convicted. Over the next year she killed six other men, but she didn't claim self defense in these killings. She plead no contest to three killings, and guilty to two more. One killing is attributed to her but never tried.

Note that her lesbian partner traded testimony for immunity and is the primary reason she was convicted of the first killing (the one she claimed self defense)

I don't know the original story, but... just because you paid to eat at an open kitchen restaurant, sit down, watch the chef wipe his nose with his hand then puts YOUR burger together, you change your mind about eating there. You get up to leave, the maitre'd holds your shoulders down and say 'Eat!'. You refuse, ask for a different order, but they say 'No, it's a paid service, still have to go through. We already took your money!'. As a nurse, just because I have to deal with sick, unstable people sometimes doesn't entitle an asshole to make me put up with his shit.
