Liar. Everyone knows that statistic is wrong, even some feminists. Anyone still quoting it is lying through their teeth.

Men and women have.

The contentious ones are feminists and rapists.

/Also this line "Can anti-rape campaigners and men’s rights advocates ever agree, or at least find some common ground?" is attempting to make MRAs appear to be pro-rape. Like saying "can feminists and anti-genocide groups ever agree or at least find common ground?"

That's a nice sentiment - but you're still using false numbers which have been fabricated by feminists to promote their hate campaigns against men.

It is not true that 1 in 4 women have been raped. 1 in 1000 is much closer.

Also, male victims of domestic violence are around 50%, not 22%.

And there is no such thing as "rape culture". If there was, rape wouldn't be illegal.

It won't be possible to reach a mutual understanding while such hate propaganda is still being spread.

We should make relevant comments whenever we have an opportunity to do so. It's the best way to spread our message!

And:

P.S. If you want to "try to build a bridge between the two sides", you shouldn't continue to ignore the major issue of false rape accusations, as you do here.

I believe the common ground needs to be:

Laws that are not only gender neutral but are also applied as gender neutral.
Penalties for false accusations need to be higher and applied when evidence shows the accusation is fabricated.
False accusers should be named in the same manner convicted rapists are named.
Police need retraining and disciplinary measures taken if they bungle rape reports.

You cannot make people agree with you so social change will be a very long process, if it is even possible. However, legislation can be changed if politicians have the will.

Very well written and objective article. I have always supported stopping violence against women, especially rape. Unlike some here I do not feel the statistics are off, I've done my own research including studies by schools, non-profit organizations and law enforcement and the stats hold up. 30% of all women by the age of 30 will be the victims of sexual assault or rape. That statistic is too high for anyone to ignore. On top of that 15% of all men will be the victim of sexual assault or rape as well the majority at the hands of men.

What few people involved in rape awareness will mention is that the majority of sex offenses are done by less than 5% of men. That they label all men as potential rapists is where I have a problem. It does not mean that we should not take the cause serious because rape not only effects the women in our culture but the men as well and we all end up as victims on some level.

I often say that we in the Men's Rights Movement need to choose our battles and fighting rape culture should not make us angry, joking about rape, making light of it or simply trying to disprove it does us no good. What we need to do is bring attention to the fact that it's a relatively minuscule segment of the male population committing these heinous acts and to label all men under the umbrella of rape culture hurt's both men and women. It makes both men and women feel like victims, women live in fear and men live under an unwarranted stigma.

So we need to find common ground and the Men's Rights Movement needs to be the first to say violence against women is not right. Feminist's need to stop painting all men as rapists and state the statistics as they stand not drum up drama to move forth a fight against their perceived patriarchal society.

Dont put yourself in a position to be raped in the first place is a good first step. And knowing the guys first name does not count as knowing them.

I dont walk around downtown with expensive clothes because I know ill be mugged.
