I'd go over her head and try to get your son transferred, or get that teacher put into line somehow.

Also, make sure your son gets a good deal of exercise before and after school.

As for a book or guide? There isn't one and it would help anyways, the only real options are to fix the small part of the problem with force, or remove your son from the problemed situation.

I suggest you google "why boys need recess", there are stacks of articles out there regarding the importance of recess. Print off a couple of the more reasonable sounding and give them to the teacher. Ask if your child must have a detention, could it be at the end of the day. I know this isn't ideal, but it would be interesting to see if it makes a difference to his behaviour.

Make sure your son has completed his homework, that way there won't be any issues there. It does sound weird that she would only punish the boys. Are you sure it is only the boy's names on the board because they haven't finished their HW and the girls have? In my experience girls are more likely to do their HW, until they become teenagers at least.

As for books, look up Steve Biddulph.

I am glad you took your son of the meds, boys are way over medicated. What is his age?

Lodge a discrimination complaint as high up as you can, I was treated the same way for years, and I'm still getting past it. This type of treatment has lasting effects, and no child should be subject to it.

Beyond that, get him tested for giftedness, it's often misdiagnosed as ADHD, but the medications and what not used generally cause further problems, as you mentioned. No, giftedness doesn't simply mean smart, there are a lot of downsides, but if he is, and you treat him right, the rewards can be astonishing.

Oh, and a physical hobby is always good, so see if he has an interest in skateboarding, BMX, mountain biking, etc. These types of things don't require a team, a field, or anything like that, plus they offer a challenging and creative outlet (and hey, they'll probably make him kinda cool).

If the teacher's bias is overt enough then you should definitely talk with a supervisor about your concerns. Maybe see if any other parents have noticed this. You also should definitely be arguing about how detrimental removing recess is for your son considering his condition. By removing that playtime all the teacher is doing is taking away your son's outlet and ensuring he'll act out again, thereby repeating the vicious cycle.

Just a small note on ADHD my youngest son has ADHD and the meds make a significant difference on his behavior and his ability to concentrate in school.

I don't know what medication your son took or what dose but it can be a good idea to try some other type of medication, remember that if he has ADHD the medication is (should be) a way to bring him up to a 'normal' level, it is the same as a par of glasses for someone with bad eyes.

My brother is a good example of what a difference meds can do. Last year he started taking meds and he now has a better job, a better apartment and has almost paid of all of his old debts. He says that he is happy for the first time in the last 20 years.

I just got custody of my son and he was on a very high dose of ADHD meds. We removed him because it was interfering with his school work.

Did you do this with his doctor's input?

As someone who has dealt with ADHD all my, at a young age we generally try simply throwing meds at them till they stick. It can be difficult to adjust when these meds are changed. Please, take it slowly when making changes. I'm sure you've got his best interests in mind.
