A lot of the emphasis your opponent will make will be on the empowering nature of the Slutwalk. It being a reminder that clothing or previous behavior does not justify committing crimes against somebody. It's meant to be a reminder that sexual promiscuity does not indicate consent. That women can be just as sexual as men and should not be judged for it.

That's a likely angle your opponent will take. There are a few ways to approach it, depending on what you think you can speak on best.

I think the biggest problem with Slutwalks is they don't address any of the causes, it's mainly a rally for people to feel better about themselves. Something more productive might be educating young people (of both genders) on good sexual communication. Sometimes girls are reluctant to say 'no' and later regret it. Sometimes guys feel like they have to go for it or they're not manly. Lots of guys learn about the 'slut shield' that most girls will say no a couple times to avoid feeling like sluts. It's in all kinds of PUA literature, and many girls do it. These are all valid things that we should try and solve. This single minded focus on 'I can do what I want!' is not going to help the problem they say they're working against.

You can also talk about how they are over-applying an off the cuff remark by a police officer specifically about how to avoid violent sexual assault. York University in Toronto, where the original spark happened has a crime problem. Not just rape. Crime of all kinds. Google 'York University Toronto Crime' and check for yourself. This is not the date-rape brand of rape from thinking a 'no' means 'slow down so I don't feel slutty'. This is genuine ambush style rape. In that situation, not being a target is more valuable advice than the more common situation of date-rape.

Edit to add: Be careful of anything resembling victim-blaming. My last point is especially susceptible to this. That's why I added the bit about date rape. It's a commonly accepted fact on the other side, so use it. Choose your words carefully. I'll bet the article won't be that long, and if you let it get derailed you will not come off well. It sucks, but those are the cards you're being dealt.

You should probably do some research and ask people that know what its about. This isn't the place. The people here just guess and are usually wrong.

The basic thing behind it is that people with PTSD relating to rape suffer with intense feelings of self blame and guilt. When people say things like "if you don't want to get raped, don't dress like a slut" it not only misrepresents rape and promotes the myth that wearing revealing clothes is what leads to rape, it also exaggerates the self blame mental injuries that people with PTSD related to rape have.

If a drunk driver deliberately runs someone over, no one (bar redundant idiots) says "well if you don't want to get deliberately run over, don't go near the road".

I hope you get the information you need, but as a general rule it's not good to agree to participate in a debate if you feel you need to ask others what points you can make. Particularly with something as important as men's rights, it's got to be well enough informed that it at least gives the impression that we're knowledgeable about the issues.

First, SlutWalks aren't about anything at all. Everything that they claim that they are about is an excuse. It's just a bunch of drum beating from people who want to feel powerful by numbers. It's an exercise in herd dynamic under the guise of protesting the assertion that people should take some amount of responsibility for their own safety. SlutWalks are more shallow defiance against daddy than anything else.

The traditional purpose of a parade is to exercise martial strength and armament. Walking through the streets and saying "These are our soldiers, these are are weapons. We are ready for war." A Slutwalk is just that. It's a parade. A march through the streets saying "These are our soldiers, and these are our weapons, we are ready for war." But for the most part, they are shadowboxing. Rapists consist of a very small portion of the US population. Unless, of course, you include regretting sex the next day or after as rape. Then suddenly, the parade has a bigger target, huh? A bigger audience to extend the clarion call to. Hmm.. interesting. I wonder how many people are making money off of Slutwalks and where that money is going to. Always follow the money.

Interesting. I just did a little searching. According to this site, there are an average of 89,000 rapes in the US every year, and the number is down 60% since 1993. According to this site, there are 636,017 homeless people in the US. Now imagine if these young ladies were putting this much effort into raising awareness and funding to treat homelessness. When you stabilize the bottom of your society, you lessen the crime rate. Mental health resources made available lead to people who commit violent impulsive crimes recieving treatment before it comes to that. The stress and malaise that leads to impulsive crime lessens.

I would posit that a stable society with more economic equity at the bottom would lead to less crimes like robbery, drug dealing and abuse, general violence, and rape.

But these girls don't care because most of those homeless... are men and they are more worried about middle class white girls getting too loaded at a party.

I support women who want to dress slutty. I don't particularly care how misguided they are. So, I propose that instead of opposing the slutwalk movement, we embrace it. In fact, we declare a National Slut Month. Pick an arbitrary month. Create a bunch of fliers. Put them up at your university and hand them out at slut walks. Make a press release and send it out to a bunch of reporters. Much hilarity will ensue.

Question.. are they actually "sluts"? Really? Honestly it sounds like they are using something that is relatively positive amongst males (ie: sluts) to advance some political agenda. "Slut walks" are not slut walks.. in any way or shape imo... the label evolks empathy from males.. but they aren't getting laid nessesairily at the end of the night. They aren't "sluts" at all but rather .. hateful of "sluts" and use empathy from males for whatever said agenda. "Slut walks" are not about women being sexually active. Dressing sexually gives women a social leg up.. men are more likely to agree with whatever a sexually provocative women says.. dressing sexually gives women "a leg up" so to speak. But it doesn't mean they are interested in sex in any way shape or form. Sexing up really allows them to have the upper hand in social discorse. However I agree .. they aren't looking to get laid based on their appearence.. they are simply using their biological privilage to subordinate males for the most part. Good luck.

This is one of the things I don't get about feminism. They don't like sexualized females in games, movies, music videos etc. But when a woman dresses sexy and goes outside she is suddenly expressing her self and there is nothing sexy about it.

I've heard that showy clothes don't actually correlate with rape. Interviews of rapists found that they picked victims wearing more ordinary clothing.

Make sure you research this claim if you're going to make it, so you have a strong citation to back it up.

So. Dick and Jane have a drunken hookup. Memories are hazy from alcohol. But Dick feels fine. Jane feels slutty. Neither of them learned about this "regret asymmetry" in sex ed class. If Dick does have any regrets about the hookup, he might vow to drink less, and he'll probably throw away the cocktail napkin that Jane scribbled her digits on. But fortunately, Jane, if she has regrets, has a taxpayer funded number to call to help her decide whether or not she's a rape victim; and whether or not Dick should go to prison for the next decade or so.

Remind me again, what's the number to the taxpayer funded MEN'S CENTER, so I can call them to ask what color ribbon I should wear on my lapel in support of all the Dick's who've been falsely accused, falsely arrested, falsely tried, falsely convicted, and falsely imprisoned for rapes that NOBODY committed?

Which sex is MANY TIMES more likely to be assaulted or murdered at night (or morning, or midday)? Which sex is more likely to be killed or injured while defending their spouse? Which sex is more likely to be killed or injured while defending their country? Which sex is more likely to commit suicide? Which sex is more likely to die of a gender-specific disease because diseases for their gender receive fewer research dollars? Which sex is more likely--even in 2013--to get a seat in a lifeboat of a sinking ship? On the other hand, Which sex is more likely to exit a marriage with fewer assets than when they entered? Which sex is more likely to be incarcerated for a crime that has no victim? Which sex has--for no known biological reason--an average lifespan more than 7 years shorter than women do? Which sex is more likely to feel obliged to get out to change a tire while cars are whizzing by? Which sex is more likely to be sent to investigate a noise that goes bump in the night?

I'm guessing the answer is "no", because these women fancy themselves a sort of Lady Godiva. This attitude is one of entitlement that says they are allowed to go out into public and make a public statement, but at the same time nobody is allowed to treat them as if they were in public.

It's not a protest but an exercise in narcissism.

I would argue that most participants around the world are not aware of the origins of the Slutwalk, and the original message has either been either hijacked by radfems to protest about what they always protest about, or more commonly, a stupidly broad bastardisation of the original protest presented as demands like "I should be be able to wear anything I want anytime and not get treated any differently to the next person." Good luck with wearing your pyjamas to your sisters wedding.

Protest the skinhead movement where you wear star of davids and have a bunch of back people in it. It's so fucking stupid. I'm not going to walk around a bad neighborhood with expensive clothes and a few hundred dollars in my pocket. That's asking to get robbed or shot or stabbed or beaten. I should be able to, but I'm not, and I would be an idiot to do it. So if a woman wants to go dress in a way that leaves little to the imagination, they shouldn't go "oh damn, never would have expected to get raped!" The rapists are for sure terrible people, but seriously? Exercise forethought and logic.

Fact. Women are sometimes subject to the term 'slut.' This term is usually meant as an insult and it means loose, promiscuous, or easy to have sexual encounters with. Fact. Women don't even have to have had sex in order to be called 'slut.' Fact. No one has the right NOT to be offended. There are no laws stating that you cannot call someone a derogatory word. That is censorship and censorship is bad.

Walking to earn the right to dress however you want is a good thing. It is an exercise in the right of the people.

Walking to stop people from calling other people names is childish and it makes me hate you.

Not recognizing the correlation between how revealing your outfit is and the odds that you may be raped is STUPID. Protesting those odds is just unfathomably illogical.

I'm a man. I like girls who are free to wear whatever they'd like to wear, and sleep with whomever they'd like to sleep. If they want to walk around naked and fuck any guy they please, I say let them. If they want to march around and demand that there should be no social backlash for their actions, I say let them. When there is social backlash for their actions, I say laugh at them.
