I'll take it to the next level. Sexual assault is a criminal matter, if a college student is accused of sexual assault then isn't the accuser and/or college administration guilty of perpetuating rape culture if they do not report the matter to the local police?

I imagine it's for the same reason that someone around here might give for a man not fighting for custody of his children. If you believe that the system is biased and will inevitably fail to get you what you want, why would you go through the trouble involved in asking it to?

I don't really follow the logic here. This would probably be called victim-blaming by a critic of this suggestion.

I don't think you're necessarily enforcing/supporting rape culture by not reporting or filing charges for rape, rather you're just not actively opposing it or compromising it. It's sort of neutral.

My boyfriend raped me. No, it wasn't "date rape" like some of you consider illegitimate, I straight up protested. I was 17 though - naive and foolish and I stayed with the scumbag. I blamed myself for it, thinking I should have fought back more. How was I supposed to report my boyfriend for raping me? Not to mention the fact that even if I had dumped his ass, it would be incredibly stressful for me because we had mutual friends and he would deny it and say I was falsely accusing him. I also didn't have any evidence - there was no struggle because I didn't fight back. Legally, I could report it anyway, but I'd still risk looking like a false rape accuser in the eyes of many, I've read articles written by men that say if there are no signs of struggle and the accused is known to the person accusing, it's likely that it's a false rape. Which is bullshit. Plenty of rapes don't involve injuries or signs of struggle, and many people get raped by people they know.

So thanks for saying that I'm supporting rape culture for not wanting to deal with more problems in addition to being raped. Victims can deal with it however they want.
