I don't know it's intention, but it feels like the internet equivelant of a passive aggressive GF dumping you by sleeping with someone else as the message. "Oh? Oh, yeah, we banned you".

I actually didn't know I was shadowbanned for about a day, until an MRA mod sent me a PM informing me that I had been shadow banned. They only knew this because they were a mod and would be prompted to "approve" a post, or even a comment, that I made.

To the person banned everything looks normal, but no one upvotes or replies to your comments.

It might be a way to defeat bots so automated resources are burned without the bot knowing it's actually not posting. But there are ways for the bot to incorporate a check to see if they are banned so I am not sure if that's it. Possibly just spammers?

Shadowbanning, for the last year or so, has usually been politically motivated. SRS (had?) at least 1 admin in their pocket and/or ranks. The Men's Rights Meta sub has more than a couple of discussions concerning the asymmetrical application of reddit rules.

Basically Feminism = free pass, anything anti-feminism, no quarter given, and cherry-picked mis-interpretations aplenty.
