How about because it's sexist and deliberately insulting and demeaning to half of the population? Is that not a good enough reason?

[–]thwml 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

My main issue with the term is that it is increasingly being used to pathologize healthy male behaviour.

[–]Turbosky 13 points14 points15 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Or start up the term "Toxic Femininity" to counter it.

[–]mrmcdude 9 points10 points11 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

No doubt it would be labeled misogynistic without a hint of irony.

[–]Nemobeenfound 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The term is already in use.

[–]rocelot7 5 points6 points7 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

To rephrase one Miss Straughan; we can't call them firemen, they're firefighters. We can't call them policemen, they're police officers. Not chairmen, chairperson. But toxic masculinity? That's fine, that's okay.

[–]LedZeppelin1602 17 points18 points19 points 8 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

My problem with the term is that there's never ever any contrasting talk of positive masculinity. So the only talk of masculinity is in a negative context.

[–]Draggonzz 19 points20 points21 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

My problem with the term is that there's never ever any contrasting talk of positive masculinity.

Nor toxic femininity.

[–]Halafax 14 points15 points16 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That's not a problem, that's the intent of the phrase.

The people who use it don't believe in positive masculinity.

[–]AloysiusC 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

They do sometimes try to talk about positive masculinity but it always devolves into traits that should be ascribed to women as well (when they're positive) and therefore one shouldn't have gender coded behavior....

...right before going back to talking about toxic masculinity.

[–]iainmf 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yep. If they can identify positive traits, they are traits that shouldn't be restricted to the masculine. Which only leaves the bad traits as masculine.

[–]Nemobeenfound 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

There is but the problem is its femininity. There's no such thing as masculinity that is positive within the lens of feminism.

[–]NibblyPig 11 points12 points13 points 8 years ago (48 children) | Copy Link

No such thing as toxic masculinity, it's just masculinity. If you don't like a particular aspect of it, that's on you. One person might find men's dominance, confidence and overbearing nature unpleasant, yet when the village is attacked and they need a leader they'll find it the opposite. Therefore it cannot be a toxic trait, only a person's opinion of it can be positive or negative, but the trait has no inherently good or bad properties.

In addition, the baseline of society, the status quo, is being altered by feminists. They make it so an unattractive guy saying hello is creepy and unacceptable, whereas 100 years ago it might have been unwanted but it wouldn't have been considered unacceptable, it's just part of life. More so if you dress up sexy and go out because you want attention, you'll get both wanted and unwanted attention, so you need to just filter it out the unwanted get on with your day.

That should be the baseline, but instead the status quo is now, do not make eye contact with women, do not talk to women, do not gesture, stand aside for them, etc. and then the traits of men are held to this fictional standard that has come out of feminism, and now the trait of being male is branded as toxic because they compare it to this.

It's like saying you're toxic because I just wrote some rules I want you to follow on a piece of paper and you're breaking them.

[–]WotNoKetchup -5 points-4 points-3 points 8 years ago (47 children) | Copy Link

Of course there is toxic masculinity but what is it and how can one define it It's when men build up their own self esteem and self confidence by smashing down women's to make themselves feel good and smug on the inside. Men claimed women were their inferior and that is where toxic masculinity began. As men across the world declared women their inferior, men went on a killing spree of mass slaughtering millions of females because they weren't born male. and those females men did not murder, they cornered and caged in to confine them, in order to exploit them and hijack their bodies resources to create more of themselves. The significance of this one idea, changed the course of history for ever and meant a death sentence for millions of females across the entire world. If men believe they are superior to women instead of equal to them, then that is a toxic idea and is toxic masculinity at it's very core which needs to be discouraged not encouraged and deflated not inflated.

[–]AloysiusC 5 points6 points7 points 8 years ago (11 children) | Copy Link

If men believe they are superior to women instead of equal to them, then that is a toxic idea and is toxic masculinity

Men are not equal to women. And believing one is superior when that isn't true, is not exclusive to men in the least.

[–]WotNoKetchup -3 points-2 points-1 points 8 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link

Yes it is exclusive to men and it's the glue that binds all men's cultures together and all their religions and their doctrine is always the same. "aw hey boy don't throw like a girl you don't want us men to class as one of those do you? Men are still murdering females because they aren't born male in quite a few countries and male cultures right now and this is not a blip, not an exception, this is men's history and men have been murdering females for that one reason. Male Vanity

[–]Uzrathixius 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Are you ok?

You post in a sub, literally, against men's rights. Well, at least three if you count feminist subs. And now you're here.

Is something going on? Maybe you need someone to talk to.

[–]Nemobeenfound 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

They are a feminist that post in AMR.

[–]AloysiusC 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

Yes it is exclusive to men and it's the glue that binds all men's cultures together and all their religions and their doctrine is always the same.

Reading your comments is like reading a feminist equivalent of Mein Kampf. If you're not a troll but really believe all this, then I you seriously need help.

[–]WotNoKetchup 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

It is no surprise you are in Denial it's not the part of men's history you like focused on. Men cornered and caged women and girls in and suffocated them. Just like in Saudi Arabia right now. That is virtually men's entire history across the globe, it's not been the exception it's been the rule and it is still the rule across most of the globe. Men are crazeee control freaks

[–]AloysiusC 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Like I said. If one replaced the word "man" with "Jew" in your writing, nobody would know it wasn't written by Nazis - neither feminists nor Nazis would even be able to distinguish you from them.

Normally I have to dig up feminist crap to prove that this exists but you just vomit it out all on your own.

[–]WotNoKetchup 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Lets put this in perspective of men's history.

Nazi's slaughtered millions of Jews because they viewed them as their inferior who were bringing their Kulture down and thought they needed to be eradicated from it and those Jews the Nazi's didn't murder they put into slavery to help prop up their fascist regime and

Men slaughtered millions of females because they saw them as their inferior and those females men did not murder they put into slavery and forced them to sign a marriage vow, obey men or else we will kick the living daylights out of you.

Men have been to females what the Nazi's were to the Jews and Saudi Arabia is only a mirror image of what the west was like pre feminism and it's why men hate feminism so much. It neither panders to men's whims of the idea they are superior or that they are in anyway innocent because not all Nazi's murdered the Jews but those that didn't did zero to prevent it when they did and rushed to defend them and justify every murder every step of the way.

[–]AloysiusC 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Said like a true feminist. Thank you for the material. Not that I needed any more but it's always useful to show people current examples of blatant misandry.

Please go on.

[–]WotNoKetchup -1 points0 points1 point 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

There is such thing as misrandry!

the Jews defending themselves against the Nazi's doesn't mean the Nazi's are being oppressed.

Men's history from the female perspective is that of the oppressor and men did murder and still do murder females because they aren't born male and that is a continued holocaust the male sex is committing against the female sex.

So what you have to do is admit that fact and persuade your bro's to stop doing it and you won't do that by denying it. The crux of misogyny is the absolute hatred for the female sex because she isn't born female this is why men like you make women puke!

[–]AloysiusC1 point 8 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Men have been to females what the Nazi's were to the Jews.....

There is such thing as misrandry!

Ya think?

[–]NibblyPig 7 points8 points9 points 8 years ago (14 children) | Copy Link

It's when men build up their own self esteem and self confidence by smashing down women's to make themselves feel good and smug on the inside.

Does this really happen? Or do in fact men make sacrifices at every turn of their lives to ensure women live in safety and comfort? If a guy does what you describe, his masculinity is non-existent, because on a base level men are genetically programmed to protect women and ensure they're happy.

As men across the world declared women their inferior, men went on a killing spree of mass slaughtering millions of females because they weren't born male.

The reason was not inferiority, it was usually borne of poverty or some system like dowry. And it was performed by parents not just men. To call it a killing spree is ridiculous.

they cornered and caged in to confine them, in order to exploit them and hijack their bodies resources to create more of themselves

Jesus lol.

This whole thing reads like it's from some feminist brainwashing propaganda textbook.

[–]WotNoKetchup -1 points0 points1 point 8 years ago (13 children) | Copy Link

Dowries, poverty are all social constructs invented by men. Hindu men apparently cant get into their heaven if their wives don't bear them sons. Just one of many reasons men came up with to justify slaughtering millions of females. "Oh my born female" = not born good enough in a male run totalitarian regime. This is the pattern of male behavior that has been consistent through men's history.

Of course men dislike this side of their history being focused on and want to dismiss it and deny it and they wouldn't be men if they weren't in denial of it because one thing men are who do deny it, are cowards. STATUS MANHOOD

[–]draino_chugger 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

These are very bold, sweeping claims. One assumes you have some equally impressive data to back them all up, yes?

[–]Nemobeenfound 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link

Of course men dislike this side of their history being focused on and want to dismiss it and deny it and they wouldn't be men if they weren't in denial of it because one thing men are who do deny it, are cowards.

Thats what happens when you make up history that never happened.

[–]WotNoKetchup -1 points0 points1 point 8 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link

Men like to tell women men protected women, but it's pure male hype and self glorifying male propaganda. The only thing men ever really protected were their own self interests. and what were they? Oh yes, men screaming at women and telling them men were in charge!. "We are in charge, we are in charge, we control the government, we control the military and we don't want you women interfering in what is our men's world, cos you are just interlopers and you are not welcome in our boardrooms to sit around the table involved in all the decision making, cos we are in charge! and it's why none of the cultures are women's, none of the religions, none of the architecture, nothing and women have no obligation to them.

[–]Nemobeenfound 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

Couldn't make up this bullshit if one tried. Don't you have a post to make in AMR?

[–]WotNoKetchup 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

Yes it is hard to believe the west was once like Saudi Arabia and men treated women so badly but never the less that is the route men took. They cornered and caged women in just like the Saudi's have done and excluded them from every form of power possible because men viewed females as interlopers in their male run totalitarian regimes, outsiders.

The culture was for males not females and females were regarded surplus to it who needed to be marginalized and excluded so they couldn't interfere in men's decisions. Women weren't allowed to be politicians, judges, jurors, or in the military, the police, Men gave themselves 100% quotas in every form of power and insisted women obey them or else? Men have acted like control freaks and slaughtered millions of females to sustain their fragile position and continue to do so and nothing has really altered except a few laws not men's mindset.

It was in all the males interests in the culture to continually demean, demoralise and humiliate the female gender to keep them in their place, because it is difficult to claim superiority and maintain control over others if all those others are found to be just as good as you.

[–]Nemobeenfound 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

The troll that keeps on giving with fake history. Tell me troll do you already have this stuff typed out?

[–]WotNoKetchup -1 points0 points1 point 8 years ago* (5 children) | Copy Link

The only thing that is fake is your denial of your sexes history and their hatred for the female of the species and which men have never made a secret of! They thought them inferior and killed them for it. Men see females as prey, not people. Men only have a claim to humanity when they admit that truth not when run away with their tail between their legs denying it.

[–]Nemobeenfound1 point 8 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

It's hard to deny history that never existed.

[–]WotNoKetchup1 point 8 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

LOL Male propaganda = "Men are heroes and self sacrificing martyrs and protected women" This protection men talk of is a protection racket.. "Obey us or else, we will throw you out to all the the other wolves waiting out there ready to tear into to you"

Women and girls have only one enemy to fear in this world and if this enemy is not trying to murder them, then they are trying to corner and cage them in.

STATUS MANHOOD = Control Freaks, screaming "We are in charge, we are in charge"

Apparently men have to prove they are men because they have an element of doubt.?

Crikey, now that is what you call mass hysteria! Men need drugs to calm them down, well if they are really men of course!

If men are questioning it, perhaps we ought to too..

LOL : )

He "Hey look guys I can cry!?

The bro's

"Run boys, he ain't a real man, he's infected and been feminized"

and they all ran over the hill screaming and bleating like little boys smashing the place up and destroying everything in their path as little boys do.! LMAO.!

If men believe they are superior to women instead of equal to them, then that is a toxic idea and is toxic masculinity at its very core which needs to be discouraged not encouraged and deflated not inflated.

So if someone believes women are superior to men that would be a toxic idea and needs to be discouraged?

[–]WotNoKetchup 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (16 children) | Copy Link

So, is that person you?

People need to understand when they claim they are promoting equality they can't justify promoting elitism at the same time because that is totally untenable.

Do you understand what untenable means?

[–]iainmf 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (15 children) | Copy Link

I was actually referring to your comments in this thread about men being awful, horrible people.

How do you reconcile your view that men and women are equals, with the view that men are horrible people?

[–]WotNoKetchup 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (14 children) | Copy Link

98% of all homicides are committed by men & 98% of all rapes and 99% of all bank robbers are male. What do you want me to say? that isn't true? Fact does not need fiction for balance.

[–]iainmf 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (13 children) | Copy Link

1% of the population is responsible for 63% of violent crimes. The fact that most violent crime is done by men does not mean that most men are violent.

You've also ignored the fact that men are much more likely to save peoples lives as firefighters, police officers, coastguard or even just as a member of the public.

Why do you beleive men are horrible people?

[–]WotNoKetchup -1 points0 points1 point 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Tell us about status manhood and manly jobs?

Tell us why yesterday 500 companies were forced to reveal what their pay schemes were in their hierarchy and that they had to admit they had been paying women far less for their labour than men in the same jobs.?

But of course their is no mentality than men collectively own that decides that is there? Men are not colluding, they just expect women to earn less than them because men still believe their own male hype and propaganda that they have been promoting for thousands of years that women and their labour are worth less than theirs..

Men don't change, it's just laws that alter and what men are allowed to get away with whilst abusing women and girls in their male Kultures.

[–]WotNoKetchup -1 points0 points1 point 8 years ago* (11 children) | Copy Link

You mean men collectively don't desire to see women sexually abused and degraded and demeaned in porn?

Killing a woman is the end game on a spectrum of male violence and at the opposite end of that spectrum, which is the least violent but just as vile is calling females names like cunt slut and whore, which is said by men to first separate themselves from females in an apartheid so they can build up their own self esteem by smashing women's down and that is men's entire culture and it is what it is built on.

"Men are police officers, fire fighters and coast guards".. Well, so what? what relevance is that?

Does that mean they don't abuse women?.

If men think any of those jobs are "manly jobs" that is men's apartheid right there and men wanting to separate themselves from females to claim some sort of superiority is where male vanity begins and killing females because they aren't born male.

We don't need to flatter men, women know where that flattery ends, in their deaths.

[–]iainmf 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link

So you believe men are inferior to women?

[–]WotNoKetchup 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link

Why I favor a birth head stamp tax on boys. Manufacturing their bodies inside ours is a JOB no man can do and if men want more of themselves to exist they should damn well pay for it!

[–]iainmf1 point 8 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

So we are back to how you reconcile your seemingly contradictory beliefs.

If men believe they are superior to women instead of equal to them, then that is a toxic idea and is toxic masculinity at its very core which needs to be discouraged not encouraged and deflated not inflated.

Here you seem to believe that men and women are equal. But you just said men are inferior. Not only that but if you also beleive that thinking one gender is superior to another is toxic.

How do you make sense of it?

[–]WotNoKetchup1 point 8 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Oh dear, now you seem to think nature has made men inferior because men can't get their own sex into this world and have to rely on women and their resources to do it for them.?

I don't think nature sees that as a bias against men it's just a fact.

So deal with it and the fact it's women's time and resources men are using to get more of themselves into this world and in this world time means money. Men always expect to get paid for their labour and now women are expecting that too and women getting their equal share is long over due.!

[–]iainmf1 point 8 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

I'm trying to understand your position. Like I said, to me, it seems contradictory.

[–]Nemobeenfound2 points 8 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Don't try. They are a TERF troll that outrights hates men.

[–]iainmf1 point 8 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Trying to understand their position has two outcomes depending on their disposition. One, I get to understand their perspective and maybe they understand it better themselves, or two, if they are trolling then I am reverse trolling. Either way I win.

[–]Nemobeenfound1 point 8 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Look at their posting history. They are doing nothing but trolling. And trying to troll them back will be pointless really. It be better for the mods to ban them.

[–]WotNoKetchup1 point 8 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

As I said time is money and men expect to get paid for their labour and women have to take time out and put their careers on hold just to get more males into this world. They are doing the male gender a great favour by putting their own lives and health and well being at risk to achieve it for them

So why should women be financially penalized for helping the male population out! Women's contribution should be fully recognized and women compensated for it and all men should be taxed for it and this tax would help women out tremendously but men should be taxed for all the children women bear because if women only received this tax because they produced sons they might then be inclined to only produce males and we need to nip that in the bud straight away.

I'm still not sure if you view men and women as equal or not.

Such “toxic” masculine norms include dominance, devaluation of women, extreme self-reliance, and the suppression of emotions.

With the exception of the devaluation of women, I don't see any of these as negatives. Why is self-reliance frowned upon? Why is keeping control over emotional states and knowing the best and most effective times and ways to express those emotions frowned upon?

Men don't burst out in joyful giggles or lay down crying - we take a few minutes to make a joke with some friends and toot our own horns and we build monuments to alleviate our sadness, so that the world never forgets from our demonstration of pain.

We take pride in learning and doing for ourselves. I don't want someone else wiping my nose for me every step of the way, that shit doesn't help and is plain condescending. When people help where it isn't requested they are ruining learning opportunities.

I'd even argue that devaluation of anyone is anti-masculine. The most stereotypically masculine men I see and know are focused on building up the people around them, not tearing them down. We mentor, teach, coach, build tools, and give recognition where it is due.
