Presumption of innocence is regarded across most of the world as the most fundamental and sacred human right of them all.

For a senator to just straight up advocate the violation of such a right should immediately have her be stripped of her political position.

No one who holds a high political office should be advocating for severe human rights violations. Ever.

[–]keith_weaver 21 points22 points23 points 7 years ago (17 children) | Copy Link

I always chuckle with sadness when the left accuses the right of stripping away our rights. They’ll get rid of that pesky Constitution eventually.

[+][deleted] -16 points-15 points-14 points 7 years ago (16 children) | Copy Link

The Constitution was created by liberals

[–]jubbergun 13 points14 points15 points 7 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

True, but those were Classical Liberals, who were nothing like the modern progressives that make up the democrat party.

[+][deleted] -6 points-5 points-4 points 7 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Why are republicans always lying about Democrats? Did you ever wonder about that? It's because the republicans agenda of power and money to the rich and servitude for everybody else is not an American value, and the only way that republicans can cling to power is by lying, voter suppression, and gerrymandering.

[–]tmone 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Over emotional, hyperbolic little children who look at politics like you need to stay the fuck away.

You're waayyyy to emotional to think logically. Holy shit.

[–]NegroChildLeftBehind -1 points0 points1 point 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Democrats, the party of segregation and Jim Crow Laws. There is no debate as to the Dems racist past and present, for that matter. Now, they have a better way of hiding it.

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points1 point 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Dixiecrats

[–]karatdem 4 points5 points6 points 7 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link

Real liberals, known in the USA as classical liberals, not USA liberals aka progressives.

[+][deleted] -7 points-6 points-5 points 7 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link

There is no difference between liberals today and liberals 240 years ago. You're just using right wing propaganda

[–]Chernoobyl 5 points6 points7 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

You're just using right wing propaganda

aka "I have no real argument so I'm going to make baseless accusations and buzzwords to dismiss and demean you"

[–][deleted] -3 points-2 points-1 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

> aka "I have no real argument

Why do republicans lie so much? You make up ridiculous nonsense, trying to redefine "conservative" to mean "liberal" and then you blame me for dismissing your nonsense as being nothing but revisionist right-wing garbage.

Saying that your values are those of 240 years ago is the very definition of conservatism. It's not liberal in the slightest. It's pro-slavery, anti-woman, anti-government. Liberals of 240 years ago were challenging the government and recognizing that people have rights which the king couldn't dismiss. Today liberals are doing the same thing and you people are fighting to keep blacks and women subjugated, fighting to increase corporate power, fighting against the rights of individuals

[–]Chernoobyl 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Uh, what? I'm not a republican you twat.

[–]alclarkey 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

There's a whole heap of fucking difference. I seriously doubt the liberals of 240 years ago would support the draconian license requirements, and regulations modern liberals seem to cream their pants over.

[–][deleted] -2 points-1 points0 points 7 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

I seriously doubt the liberals of 240 years ago would support the draconian license requirements, and regulations modern liberals seem to cream their pants over.

Why is it that the only justification the right wing has for their appalling ignorance is to lie about liberals?

Fine, you're in favor of letting corporations kill people with pollution, and kill people with dangerous working conditions, and poison people with spoiled food and toxic chemicals. You have no problem with racism, slavery, child labor, or treating women like 2nd-class humans. You hate all the regulations that keep that from happening.

[–]alclarkey 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago* (3 children) | Copy Link

Fine, you're in favor of letting corporations kill people with pollution, and kill people with dangerous working conditions, and poison people with spoiled food and toxic chemicals.

Great let's just go ahead and ignore the fact that I said the word "draconian". Liberal principles state that people are allowed to do as they wish, so long as they do not harm anyone else in the process. I think that just about covers everything you mentioned there.

You have no problem with racism,

No, I hate racism. But as a liberal I believe in freedom of speech.

slavery,

Why would a person who believes in liberty not have a problem with slavery? Slavery is the absolute antithesis to freedom.

child labor,

Children do not have the mental faculties to enter into a contract understanding what they are getting themselves into, so no I'm not OK with child labor. Likewise, they should probably be spending their time with their schooling, rather than getting themselves stuck in the low-education rut.

or treating women like 2nd-class humans.

I need some elaboration on this one. How do libertarians/libertarian leaning republicans treat women like 2nd-class humans?

You hate all the regulations that keep that from happening.

Hey champ, you wanna go ahead point to the post where I said all?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Great let's just go ahead and ignore the fact that I said the word "draconian".

Where "draconian" is any regulation that YOU don't like, which really means that you expect the entire universe to obey YOUR rules.

[–]alclarkey 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Did you just use the "Let's do all the things that you want to do" argument? LMAO.

Anyways, yes if I think a particular regulation is draconian, then yes I won't like it, and yes I think it should go away.

[–]boringcarpets 6 points7 points8 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I've said it before and I'll keep saying it: Subversion. The rate at which things that this western, liberal, democracy is based on is being bastardised or torn down by the narrative. Rape, racism, equality, the burden of proof, the rule of law, illegal immigration, citizenship, whatever something is defined as, and as you understood not 5 years ago, is being systematically changed or bulldozed to suit the feminist/SJW agenda

Subversion

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

She's really no different from McConnell

Presumption of innocence is about court not public opinion.

[–]Greg_W_Allan 7 points8 points9 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Witch hunts are OK then.

Justice systems are a response and solution to the mobs with pitchforks and flaming torches. ie public opinion. It is for that very reason the presumption of innocence is a foundational principle.

You'd better hope you never become the target of "public opinion".

[–]TheMythof_Feminism 13 points14 points15 points 7 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

Presumption of innocence is about court not public opinion.

Actually it is both a legal and ethical tenet.

For a senator to advocate a violation of it on either level is extremely egregious and I would say, grounds for her to be stripped of her political power.

/u/jy9000 I'm not sure how you can disagree with the statement "Senators should not be advocating for severe human rights violations, ever."

[+]jy9000 -23 points-22 points-21 points 7 years ago* (5 children) | Copy Link

A simple Google search about "Presumption of innocence " would indicate otherwise. Also, the "right" would gladly remove rights from women, people of color, different faiths and orientations.

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points7 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Which rights would be removed from ethnic, sexual or religious minorities? Be specific.

[–]TheMythof_Feminism 11 points12 points13 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

A simple Google search about "Presumption of innocence " would indicate otherwise.

Not sure why you are lying so transparently. A google search corroborates everything I've said.

I call troll. Dismissed.

[–]mikesteane 6 points7 points8 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Also, the "right" would gladly remove rights from women, people of color, different faiths and orientations.

Can you explain what this means? Why have you, effectively, singled out white men as not having rights removed from them? This makes no sense to me. Please explain.

[–]Chernoobyl 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Also, the "right" would gladly remove rights from women, people of color, different faiths and orientations.

Back up your claim.

[–]LabTech41 12 points13 points14 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Why would ANY man, or woman who has a man in her life she wants to look out for EVER vote for this woman? If you vote for this woman, and you have any feelings as at for the well-being of men, you're not only morally bankrupt, but a traitor to the sex.

I mean, putting the horror of the fact that a woman who doesn't believe the rule of law applies to political enemies is in a position to craft legislation, you literally couldn't concoct a better way to campaign against her if you tried. If you run against this woman and you lose, good god.

[–]alclarkey 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Indeed, good god. That would mean that the general populace in her area we're total fucking idiots. If you live there, you should probably move.

[–]IronJohnMRA 10 points11 points12 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

This is what a feminist looks like.

[–]Hirudin 4 points5 points6 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Not just a regular internet nobody either.

A senator.

This kind of thinking isn't fringe feminism. It's mainstream.

[–]Lupinfujiko 10 points11 points12 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

“he very much is against women’s reproductive choice.” - Senator Hirono

And here is the entire crux of the controversy.

It is political.

This isn't about right or wrong, or whether it happened or not.

It's about the "right" way of thinking, and the "wrong" way of thinking.

This is disgraceful.

It is nothing short of a disgrace for a Senator to eschew fundamental presumption of innocence rights in order to achieve a political agenda.

She should be ashamed of herself. As should anyone supporting this political circus.

[–]EsraYmssik 4 points5 points6 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

With the addition of a second woman alleging sexual misconduct of Brett Kavanaugh, it is still not clear what factual disputes will have to be addressed before a final confirmation vote occurs in the Senate.

Whether or not the events actually happened as reported? Just spit ballin'...

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points8 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

It is with continued frustration that I watch more and more of my previously-favored Democrats devolve into raving, sexist lunatics.

[–]alclarkey 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Oh no, they haven't devolved. This is how they have always been. You're simply more aware of it now that you are paying attention to men's rights.

[–]herkandjerk 3 points4 points5 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I just can’t believe an actual senator is advocating for applying fundamental rights to only U.S. citizens who have the “right” thoughts.

The Pussification of Society

[–]yaiosuyej -1 points0 points1 point 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

think this guy is an asshole.

The "republicans" delayed Obamas pick for over 18 months until he left office and then decided not to accept the pick for scotus.

Yet they are okay with not delaying this pick for 18 months like they did the last one.

He should not be on scotus.

This asshole will rule in favor of the isps and corporations when the NN fight gets to the supreme court.

Which means that you will have to get used to having dial up speeds as high speed internet and paying whatever amount of money the isps want you to.

Vote democrats and independents in the upcoming election and demand your "representatives cancel this vote on this asshole.
