What is something you've been told that you know you wouldn't get away with saying yourself as a man?

I got told - to my face - that if I wanted to discuss my emotions that I needed to make more male friends instead of shoving more emotional labor on to women.

I can't imagine telling a woman to make more friends with women to discuss her emotional issues, much less someone I'd known for literal years and had dated. That was definitely a friendship killer.

Sad but I definitely have a buttload of other stories and examples of this.

My feminist ex always said i shouldnt show anger or fear, always stand my man against people. I should always protect her and do her social tasks (she had anxiety). When we decided to go different ways she sent two of her (according to her feminist) friends to my house to fetch her stuff. They scold me about what a man i am because i thought its too much do always do her bidding and that they didnt fight 'the fight against men like me' so that we could relax and stop 'doing our job'. I couldnt help but laugh and one of them wanted to hit me when they went but missed and called me swine. I thought we parted in good lol. There was no drama involved.

when i was 9 or 10 i was groped by an old woman. i told this to an adult ( i was confused, i didn't know how to act ) and they answered i have been lucky and i was supposed to enjoy it.

Told a gf I'm too tired to have sex, heard I'm not a real man, was told I'm probably homosexual, that I'm having an affair and was told to prove (by having sex) that I still love her. Sure, guys coerce girls into sex too by saying bad stuff but whenever I complained about it to others I was told it's not a problem because apparently I didn't meet her needs. She ended up cheating on the next guy and he was also told it was because he didn't meet her needs and should've tried harder.

A girl I was dating completely humiliated me in the street for being scared of a horror movie. She made a whole scene outside the movie theatre about how I was a 'pussified manchild' etc etc. It was all meant to be extremely emasculating. I never talked to her again after that.

How about telling an entire gender they are all trash and/or should be killed.

We see this a lot, when directed at men, and it’s excused. Apparently hating men = “poor thing, who hurt you” and hating women = “lol, you’re just mad girls won’t date you, loser!”

Granted, hating people is wrong in both cases no matter what experience you went through, but we shouldn’t be giving one instance a pass.
