Yes and no. A lot of what feminists want to call harassment is indeed not harassment but an issue of gender roles. And asking for consent doesn't solve the issue when some people then go meta and want you to ask for consent for asking for consent.

But some harassment definitely is an issue of entitlement (not necessarily male though). When people don't stop despite an unambiguous No, there is a problem.

Yes ! Men are not entitled to anything in our society, they always have to earn and push for their goals. That's why when we push that mentality to genders it creates problems. Don't forget that most women are "turned off" when a man ask verbally for consent because that shows that "he doesn't get the signals". I never understood why a grown woman would expect anyone to just know what she's thinking about. Like, you can talk, you can communicate, act like an adult and say what you want people to hear.

Give some security and some peace of mind to men, everyone will benefit.

Agree but it’s not just gender roles that are the issue. If that were the case, I as a man would not have been sexually harassed many times

This is one of the strongest arguments for normalizing women taking initiative in dating, in my opinion. I suppose it might be ok to expect only men to take the initiative, but only if we are not constantly criticized for "not getting the hint". It still would be an unequal and mutually sexist system for confining both genders to specific roles, but at least it would not be so toxic and would function somewhat properly.

The problem is that there is rape hysteria, and women (especially young women on college campuses, I can attest to this personally) have such a jaded view. They believe all of us are evil rapists out to get them. And the only thing that overrides this is the superficial tingle of excitement when a guy she does like actually asks her out (which is often based on equally superficial criteria in my experience, but that's a topic for another time). It is a very childish behavior when you really think about it. Basically it's "I don't like this thing, so it's bad." And "I do like this thing, so it must be good." Creepy when she doesn't like the attention and alphas displaying masculinity when she does like it.

So the problem is actually more than just gender roles, though I agree with you that in a perfectly egalitarian society, they would need to change. But that will not help unless we exonerate the reputation of the male gender in general, and do away with this view that the actual creepy guys are anything more than a small minority it is not worth overreacting to.

Also, I'd like to point out that this is just another case of not living up to the whole "strong, independent, woman" thing. Any woman that really believed in that would want to speak up for herself, clearly communicate her interest or lack thereof like a mature adult, and not act entitled to not having to have guys she's not into ask her out.

For the record, if you're attractive enough, women will flock to you and literally offer themselves. This entire topic only applies to the other 80% of men.

You are actually right. This actually makes sense. This is the problem of gender roles. This is what makes it a human issue. It's not just a women's issue. Anyone can harass anyone.
