Well that's what feminists get for suing the shit out of men's organizations for decades while screaming about equality. Eventually, equality means equality and not just women getting stuff. Life's a bitch that way.

[–]Ariliescbk 71 points72 points73 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

And denying the men a right to a safe place like a men's shelter (that also accepts children).

[–]Open-Season8313 3 points4 points5 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Well yeah, but they are clever, that's why they've now switched almost exclusively to chasing "equity" not "equality".

A small change to layman, most people won't even notice, but it means they can keep pushing way past "equality", which for all intents and purposes we reached decades ago.

[–]Starmind0 49 points50 points51 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Watch misandrists complain about shelters supporting men.

[–][deleted] 238 points239 points240 points 5 years ago (20 children) | Copy Link

That does make a bit of a sense.. there is tons of domestic violence in gay relationships.. oddly enough, homosexual men are less likely to experience domestic violence as lesbians.. that actually might tell us something but I won't be getting into it..

[–][deleted] 134 points135 points136 points 5 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Yeah but I mean it’s still amazing that this charity has been around since the mid-90s and in all that time it hasn’t even once turned its attention to men who’ve experienced domestic violence. That’s not much of a track record.

[–]StrokeMyAxe 75 points76 points77 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

My favorite part of the article is where they try to defend themselves by systematically going through how they have excluded only straight men from their program all these years. Lol

[–]upsidedownbackwards96 points 5 years ago [recovered] (6 children) | Copy Link

Gay men have the least amount of domestic violence, heterosexuals are in the middle, and lesbians are most likely.

[–][deleted] 31 points32 points33 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Exactly

[–]Ultimetnrg 6 points7 points8 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

This is just question, but since people are saying that Lesbians are more likely to experience domestic abuse, would that mean that lesbians (meaning gay women) are abusing other lesbians, and that this is more common in comparison to other demographics? I'm just wondering.....

[–]k1ll3rM 2 points3 points4 points 5 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

A bit late, but do you have a source for this? I'd like to save it for later.

Turns out I was wrong. It goes Lesbian > gay > straight but gay seems to be underreported.

I can't remember which article I read it from.it was about statistics regarding domstic violence.

[–]Mythandros 4 points5 points6 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

It tells me that more women appear to be abusive than men. I suspect it's because they know they can get away with it.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Kind of, yes.. but that explains their violent tendencies towards men.. when they're assaulting their own, it gets a bit more tricky.. it's like privilege vs privilege.. Perhaps, since women are more emotional than men, sometimes to the extreme, they are more prone to violence as a default reaction.

[–]Mythandros 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

[–]RedditTogetherStrong 4 points5 points6 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

See people, the feminists only care about making women higher than men. They only want to make it seem like all men are evil and that men can’t be victims of abuse, and when a man is being abused, they say stuff like “he probably deserved it” or “ men can’t be abused” when that’s total bullshit. I only wish that there were domestic abuse charities for EVERYONE not just women and kids, and even better, they should make an all-men domestic abuse charity or even shelters for men who suffered from abuse

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I agree, but if you want to see what kind of opposition you’ll be up against, read about Earl Silverman.

Does anyone here no of a woman named Erin pizzey...she brought it up that men and women were mor or less equal wen it came to perpetuating dv...she had feminists kill her dog and she had to flee from her home country of England if memory serves me right..says it all, shes worth a google edit: she was born in China ,her father was a diplomat, and she was the woman who founded the womens domestic violence shelter Refuge

[–]ShivasKratom3 1 point2 points3 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I am just wondering... Why are the people commenting happy about this? And how does it help with men's rights that charity aimed at helping women abuse victims are losing funding? Is any help organisation of any kind really a threat to anyone's well being or human rights?

An overwhelmingly higher amount of women in the world are murdered by their partners or close family compared to how many men are killed by a partner or close family. So even if abuse such as emotional or physical exists on both sides, men do not fear for their lives in the same way women do and do not suffer the consequences of that very real perceived fear, like ptsd and such.

Statistics example: https://www.bbc.com/news/newsbeat-51572665

[–]foobar93 5 points6 points7 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Oh my. I will try to answer your first question, then go into the bullshit you posted.

While I personally also do not see the loss of money to a shelter as something good, I can understand why for many this feels like a win. Imagine you have worked for years to get funding and help for abused men only to be told "Men cannot be victims", to call a domestic abuse hotline and be sent of to the batterer hotline because you cannot be a victim. And then this news comes along, punishing the organizations who did all of that to you and maybe opening minds to also see the issues you are facing. I can understand the Schadenfreunde in that. Personally, I think this will make things even worse as feminists will rage about this, try to overturn it and point to it every time we try to get funding for shelters as taking money away from woman. But we will see.

While I agree that more woman are murdered by their partner than the other way around, it is also true that 60% of murders committed by woman are directed at their partner vs only 20% of murders committed by men (source: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/1635092/). The issue is that men live in a much more violent world, facing murder much more often and committing murder much more often than their female counterparts. Why this is, I can only speculate.

This, however, does not excuse the bullshit you posted.

"men do not fear for their lives in the same way women do" is the issue we are facing, not an excuse to deride man from getting help. Heck, men should be taught to fear for their lives but we as a society tell them to man up and shut up resulting in the mess we are in atm.

"and do not suffer the consequences of that very real perceived fear, like ptsd and such."

And again, just because we are teaching men to shut up, not talk about their feelings, and man up does not make that an excuse to deride them from help. Hell, that should be in your very own interest if you actually care about woman getting killed by their spouses. How many deaths could we prevent if we got actual help to men who suffer from depression or ptsd instead of them shutting up about it for years until they kill themselves or someone else.

[–]Myahmans 10 points11 points12 points 5 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

Why? Because it's a blow to the usual "Women > Men" narrative that gets spouted by Feminism and the modern media. And it helps as those funds can be aimed at gender neutral charities that help not just women but also men. And yes, while women are in a higher risk of receiving physical violence, men are at a higher risk of receiving mental violence, which leads to these men killing themselves, which could be considered physical violence by proxy, which would then make men also outrank women in that statistic. Good enough reason, I think

[+]Aldembarian -6 points-5 points-4 points 5 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

I want to ask another question then.. The women>men narrative that you talk about, can you explain to me the dangers of it, or why it is upsetting people (men I assume for the most part)? I really would like to know. Because I have yet to find a reasonable answer for this.

I hear you. But I am still questioning a sort of cheering on attitude or schadenfreude towards someone that constitutes no actual threat to men's rights (or anyone). That organisation exists to help people. Which is in no way a danger towards anyone. Their aim is to provide shelter and support for women who are abused. In what ways to they endanger men as a group in our society or threaten their rights? Especially all of those men who are in no way abusers? I assume the people who are upset and fighting for men's rights are fighting for the men who are not abusive/innocent and haven't done harm in this world. Please explain to me how this works?

Do you think that the funding for that organisation or women's organisations in general comes from a pot where in case some is withdrawn, the rest automatically goes to help men with their wellbeing in society? I think it is more likely to assume the money lost will go towards something else... like more parking space.

It just seems sad. How can there be men's rights without women's rights? Do u really think women deserve hatred and lack of support for the wellbeing of men to exist?

[–]Myahmans 4 points5 points6 points 5 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

The dangers of the narrative of women > men are that men are, instead of being treated as equals as both movements preach to try and achieve (Feminism and Mens Rights Movement), being treated as a lower class purely on their sex. Which inherently is degrading and comes with multiple ways the 'higher class', in this case women as the narrative wants it to be, can be discriminatory towards them.

And while yes, the organization exists to help people, they reject victims of domestic abuse based upon their sex (if they're a man, all the domestic abuse shelters I've found news about are single sex only or have news about how they aren't accepting men, etc, but that might also be due to the lack of shelters where men are even accepted). That is straight up harmful towards the basic rights of men, which women have. But do not try to twist my words by trying to make it so that the women in these shelters are the enemy in my eyes, which they aren't. I feel sorry for what they've gone through. But, the fact of the matter still is that if these shelters refuse to also take in abused men, these shelters aren't acknowledging an entire fucking gender, which is inherently sexist.

As for the funding question, I'm just hoping it goes towards helping men and women, by, for example, it being pushed towards a charity that helps both men and women.

As for the final paragraph you've written, you're just straight up assuming that's what I believe. There can't be men's rights without women's rights, just as there can't be men's responsibilities and accountability without women's responsibilities and accountability. One of which is purely ignored by the feminism movement, which is the women's responsibilities and accountability part. Women, in the western part of the world, by and large have achieved more than equality in terms of rights, they have more rights than men in quite a-lot of areas of life. Yet none of the responsibilities, as they see that as inequality for some reason. So I have to ask:

Do you really think men deserve hatred and lack of support for the wellbeing of women to exist?

[–]Aldembarian 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I agree that a very one-sided or stereotype-based narrative regarding gender (or anyone or anything for that matter) is always very harmful. I believe in a nuanced and open discussion from both "sides", which is also why I am not sure these sort of polarised forums that aim to separate themselves from the "other side", ever do much good. Both sides can learn from each other, if they are willing too. And maybe then we could eventually come up with a solution. But as long as the discussion is polarised and driven by emotion rather than reason then I don't think we are able to get anywhere... Not assuming anything about u personally here btw, nor was I before. The sadness comes from my view of the state of the world or what at least is reflected on big parts online.

I am for equality although there are differences between the sexes that I think always will have to be taken into consideration to reach equality, some differences that change over time. But we have to be aware of what they are, looking realistically at things.

Sometimes, in some cases, complete equality might not be the best idea either. Since human beings are all different and have different needs so they need different types of aid. But thats off topic maybe. Men and women are both biologically but mainly structurally different, due to how we've been brought up through generations. It is complex. I am just saying we have different advantages from the start so we need different types of care or attention and help. Therefore a charity to aid both men and women with seemingly similar problems might be very problematic and won't really help anyone.

A concrete example would be to let men into a women's shelter. A lot of the women seeking shelter have been abused, mentally, physically and sexually, by men, so badly, for such a long time, that they are terrified of men overall. This is not due to hatred of men in general, this is due to associations regarding traumatic events that these women need proper time and help to overcome.

I have actually no knowledge about the number of men who are in need of physical shelter from their abusive female partners in the world right now so I will not say anything about it. And I do not oppose such a shelter being built if there is a need for it. But firstly, I could imagine there are other higher demands out there than a man's shelter, and other things that needs attention and funding regarding men's health. And those fundings should not be at the expense of women's health or safety. If men are lacking resources in certain areas in society that is a political issue that needs to be adressed, but again, not at the expense of women's health or safety.

I just strongly disagree with schadenfreude. Understandable? Sure. I mean, hatred can be understandable too. And even murder. But is it okay just because it is understandable? Does it help anyone? Does it do any good? I believe it is driven by a sense of injustice, and injustice comes from ones need not being accurately met. Therein lies the solution. To meet the needs of the people lacking and not blame those who are getting their needs met. One persons misery will never create happiness in another. That I know through my life to be true.

Let's focus on the forces that drive men to become miserable instead of the forces that aim to help women perhaps? I do not think that expressing hatred against men will do anything to help the wellbeing of women, honestly. And not the other way around either.

I absolutely agree that men's emotional health is extremely important, just as important as the emotional health of women, or children or anyone, regardless of age or gender. And THIS should be a priority of society. Always. But I am almost certain that the lack of resources comes from a disinterest from the leaders in the world due to the fact that emotional health has not been prioritised in this world for a long, long time. Everyone is struggling, why fight about it?

Where is the consideration for male victims? There are 0 shelters and male victims get laughed at or victim-blamed.

Maybe more women need shelters, sure, but can't they make a little room in there for the smaller amount of men that need help?

This doesn't have to be black and white. All they had to do was be fair about the support. They should have their shelter support both genders. It doesn't seem like it would be that much of an imposition.

THIS is why it's upsetting to me!

[–]youcantdenythat 2 points3 points4 points 5 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

If the shelter can't be fair and also help men then why should they get public funding?

To me the obvious answer is they should have decided to help male victims too, then they would still be getting their funding.

This is a consequence of their own bad choice. I'd be very surprised if they didn't have plenty of chances to rectify this but continued to stubbornly deny help for male victims.

I blame the shelters bad ethics for this unhappy situation. Hopefully this will be a wake-up call to them.

As I replied to someone else in this thread:

Men and women have different advantages from the start

This is a blanket statement and there are many many exceptions to it.

A lot of the women seeking shelter have been abused, mentally, physically and sexually, by men, so badly, for such a long time, that they are terrified of men

We're talking about men who have been abused, mentally, physically and sexually, by women, so badly, for such a long time, that they are terrified of women. I doubt they would be much of a threat to each other.

They may even be quite beneficial to each other to help each other get over their irrational fears.

[–]tothecatmobile 1 point2 points3 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The funding instead will go to organisations who help everyone.

[–]Mythandros 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

[–]jonnyhaldane 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Personally I don’t think it’s a good thing if help is taken away from women because of this. In an ideal world both men and women should get the help they need.

But two things to consider:

  1. Maybe giving men somewhere to go would prevent partner murder also.

  2. Maybe the other organisations will use the funds more efficiently.

[–]Aldembarian 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Agree. Men definitely need support as well. Both the abused and the abusers. It is tricky though. I know where I live (scandinavia), there was a political debate recently regarding certain men's support organisations for those who were abusing their partners. Apparently, their behaviours did not change, rather it worsened (statistically), so they dismantled (or how u say) the whole thing. Apparently there is not sufficient research on how to go about these things, or maybe if there is, no proven methods on how to do so.

There is also the very tricky question about perspective. I read an article a few years ago (trying to find it but can't...) that talked about how couples who seek help oftentimes do that on the abusers behalf, since the abuser often is the one perceiving the abuse, while the actual victim on the other hand is blaming themselves for everything. Therefor, trying to help someone understand their own behaviour rarely works if they have a different perspective. You cannot raise adults. There is a reason why abuse exists in the first place, someone does not become abusive without their own perceived reasons. Which can be childhood trauma or something else, but the result is: they believe their partner hurting them, when they might not intended to. The whole thing is so complicated so... well... I guess what we really need is a bigger interest in this topic altogether, politically, more research, more funding, more support. For everyone. But until then, what more concretely can be done, is protecting those that seek help from acute physical violence.

The question of perception becomes relevant when u look at self survey studies as well... There is no guaranteed way to know for sure how many people, men or women, are suffering through abuse.

I am curious to read more about that, if you can find a link.

Did you really just say men do not fear like women do and don’t get things like ptsd from said fears? This is the dumbest shit I’ve ever read. Men do get ptsd and feel fear like women do its not a gender thing, every human without psychological issues feels fear and can get ptsd from a traumatic experience. I’m all for equality but equality doesn’t mean exclusion of men from issues. Your comment reminds me of when fake Feminists with anti male agendas tell men with different views they wouldn’t be able to understand because they are men.

[–]Aldembarian 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Um no I did not say that.

[–]GhoztedDubs 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Even if it wasn’t your intent it was what you typed

[–]cld8 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I am just wondering... Why are the people commenting happy about this? And how does it help with men's rights that charity aimed at helping women abuse victims are losing funding? Is any help organisation of any kind really a threat to anyone's well being or human rights?

This move might motivate charities to not discriminate against men. Even if this particular charity doesn't change their policy, other charities will be more likely to support both men and women if they realize that their funding is at stake.

Also, the money can be reallocated to other charities. It doesn't just disappear.

That’s dumb it’s a charity, no one cares about men’s issues

[–]iSpiltMyCoffeeAgain 28 points29 points30 points 5 years ago (21 children) | Copy Link

no one cares about men’s issues

And that's the problem

[–]Legitimate-Piano-492-21 points 5 years ago [recovered] (20 children) | Copy Link

Yeah people shouldn’t celebrate the defunding of a charity that’s against domestic abuse.

[–]iSpiltMyCoffeeAgain 21 points22 points23 points 5 years ago (18 children) | Copy Link

What about male domestic abuse or does that not matter?

[–]Legitimate-Piano-492-21 points 5 years ago [recovered] (17 children) | Copy Link

Well then donate to a charity for male domestic abuse. Defunding a women’s charity for not supporting male issues isn’t good.

[–]iSpiltMyCoffeeAgain 17 points18 points19 points 5 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link

Or how about all charities just cover everyone, for both genders

[–]Legitimate-Piano-492-5 points 5 years ago [recovered] (8 children) | Copy Link

Well no because there are some issues that are predominantly gender specific. Is this subreddit sexist for focusing on male issues?

[–]iSpiltMyCoffeeAgain 18 points19 points20 points 5 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

You can't call anything sexist when you're saying no one cares about men's issues

[–]Legitimate-Piano-4921 points 5 years ago [recovered] (1 child) | Copy Link

I mean am I wrong, does society as a whole care about make issues. I don’t think so I don’t know why you’re saying that

[–]iSpiltMyCoffeeAgain 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

And that's the problem. No one caring

[–]justarandomtrol 4 points5 points6 points 5 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Correct, there are gender specific issues

But domestic abuse is NOT GENDER SPECIFIC

[–]Legitimate-Piano-4921 points 5 years ago [recovered] (2 children) | Copy Link

Well it’s predominantly a women problem so I’d disagree with you

[–]justarandomtrol 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

In Canada alone men are more likely to be victims than women

Source: https://www.researchgate.net/publication/332917590_Prevalence_and_Consequences_of_Intimate_Partner_Violence_in_Canada_as_Measured_by_the_National_Victimization_Survey

And in general men make up 40% of domestic abuse victims

Source: https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.theguardian.com/society/2010/sep/05/men-victims-domestic-violence

Men make up a higher percentage of DV victims than women do suicides.

So by your logic we should make suicide prevention lines male only

[–]youcantdenythat 2 points3 points4 points 5 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

If this was a privately funded organization I wouldn't have any problem with it. But they're talking about public funding here.

I don't want my tax dollars to go towards a sexist organization that denies male victims when there is ZERO tax dollars going to help victimized men.

It's not that hard to let a few men in when they are in need of support.

[–]Legitimate-Piano-4920 points 5 years ago [recovered] (2 children) | Copy Link

Well we don’t really have a choice where our tax dollars go unfortunately. And there are plenty of places that would accept men. That was just a women’s only charity

[–]youcantdenythat 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

everything you just said is wrong

[–]cld8 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Well then donate to a charity for male domestic abuse. Defunding a women’s charity for not supporting male issues isn’t good.

So the women's charity gets government funding, but for the men's charity we have to donate ourselves?

[–]Legitimate-Piano-4921 points 5 years ago [recovered] (1 child) | Copy Link

Well men’s issues aren’t as big as female issues. I mean and some men’s issues that you believe need more funding. I mean the government does donate to things like prostate cancer always what’s you’re point

[–]cld8 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I just made my point. The government should not engage in sexual discrimination. Sure they donate to prostate cancer, but how is that relevant to domestic abuse?

[–]Jepekula 11 points12 points13 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It's positive because it encourages the charity to be against domestic abuse on every day of the week instead of just on Thursdays. It provides an incentive for the charity to do what they say they're doing.

[–]TigerThen 28 points29 points30 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Why are you here then?

[–]flyredditguy 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The focus, protection or funding of PLURAL .. is clear explanation enough.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

“Women’s” domestic abuse

They asked for equality...I guess they’re now getting it.

Why does this feel like a pyrrhic victory tho?
