Women approaching a man walking alone is not a reversible situation. Some of the most important parts of the context are hugely different.

Let's develop a comparison scenario.
Women are now 5.6 inches taller than you.
They have double your upper body strength, double your grip strength. Their hands are much bigger. They can often pin both your wrists with one hand.
Their shoes are stable and can handle soft ground. They can reliably sprint, and continue to run indefinitely. Your shoes can do none or one of those four things, and women can easily outpace you over both short and long distances anyway.

We could now attempt to imagine a world where that physical difference had always been the case, and what society would look like now. Nope, too hard.
Similarly we can't imagine a society where women did 99% of the severely traumatic sexual violence to strangers, and 99% of the killings of strangers, and it had always been like that.

Let's make a more familiar scenario. Bring your shoes.
Your approacher is male with the same overwhelming physical superiority, like a basketballer or a football forward player except without the income. You know his buddy(s) are the same size, though you can't see any right now. They are all gay. I guess it's best if you are too. Is he carrying a weapon? Very possibly.

Are you carrying a weapon? You check your pockets. Ha, no pockets!
Like nearly all girlymen who share your taste in impractical shoes, your clothes are too close-fitting to conceal a gun. A visible gun is asking to be beaten up to steal your gun, among other problems. You could put it in your handbag but most 13 year olds are strong enough to wrestle it off you. Anyway you spent the night at a bar, no guns.

The last bit of the scenario is that because you are extraordinarily pretty you get approached far more than you want, you have a partner and a queue of alleged friends hoping to fill his shoes if you split up.

Maybe you're still fine with being approached, but you could understand why some people would prefer to be left alone.

Wait a minute. According to the FBI data, men are murdered more than women by a ratio of 4 to 1. Men are also WAY more likely to be physically assaulted on street.

As for sexual violence, it's feminists who brought it to my attention that "stranger" in the bush type rape is EXTREMELY rare. It's usually acquaintances.

Similarly we can't imagine a society where women did 99% of the severely traumatic sexual violence to strangers, and 99% of the killings of strangers, and it had always been like that.

Do you have a citation for this or did you just pull it out of your ass? Here's some actual data. A little old but sufficient for our purposes.

It doesn't look like women are any less violent than men, just that they tend to pick on people who are their size or smaller.

As for murder it looks like women commit about ten percent of murder. This doesn't include infanticide or violence by proxy. Men are 80% of the victims and 90% of the perpetrators. When you factor in societal bias, and criminal justice system bias, against men and in favor of women, it's not far off from men committing an equal proportion of violence to that which they suffer.

As for violent, forcible sexual assault, I'll concede that is a male dominated crime. According to the FBI it's 2 percent of crime reported to the police. Considering cultural and social bias against men reporting female rapists, I'm surprised there's even that many. However, in prison, female inmates are twice as likely to sexually assault other inmates than male inmates.

Those stats aren't included. And if we are talking about the new definition of rape as used by feminists the numbers quickly even out, so long as we include "made to penetrate" in the numbers.

We have not touched on bias in the criminal justice system. I'm willing to concede that men are more violent, but it's much more constructive to point it out in a thoughtful manner. It often seems like feminism boils down to "men bad, women good." Unless you are one of the feminists who advocates for male genocide, this is not helpful.

The good news is that violent crimes like murder and forcible rape have been dropping in the USA for decades. They are extremely rare. IF you broaden the definition of rape beyond "forcible" anyone who bothers to look at female perpetration will find that it gets closer to parity the more broadly that you define rape. Most of this is hidden by the fact that the FBI definition of rape requires penetration.

Attitudes like yours are not helpful in identifying or solving the problems and is a big part of why the Men's Rights Movement exists. Catastrophization of the issue is less than helpful and I would kindly ask you to refrain from doing so on male-centered subreddits. If you make a strong claim like the one you just did, please provide citation.

Edit: Thanks to u/Oncefa2 I have looked into this study on the surprising prevalence of female on male sexual assault. I highly recommend reading this. It turns out we hacen't really studied female on male rape and are completely culturally aware how common it actually is.

What are you talking about? That paper says that women are only 14% of violent offenders. And even then, most of their victims are not strangers, like they are with men.

Actually, if you account for the institutionalized population, women assault men at the same rate that men assault women. Actually trying to steal a gun off of an armed person is asking to get shot. There are scenarios where someone would do that. But most of the time it isn't worth the risk.

Yet men don't seem to mind when strangers of either sex approach them when they are alone. Its in the nature of public spaces that if you don't want someone to talk to you, it is incumbent upon you to make that wish known, even if they are the demographic who is most likely to murder or rape you, because one of the purposes of public spaces is so we can interact with people whom we would not otherwise interact with.

It's really not 99% though. More like 66%. Court records in England going back to the 1600s demonstrate this.

Further evidence of court records from the Westminster Quarter Sessions 1680- 1720 shows women prosecuting their male partners for assaults in a manner which was empowering and provided access to legal redress against abusive partners (Hurl-Eamon, 2005). These records also show that women were considerably violent themselves, given that they were before the court as perpetrators of violence in approximately one third of assault cases. Accused women were more likely to have assaulted family or household members or neighbors than others (George, 2002, 2003).
