People go to great lengths to try and defend women, or place blame on men, for gender issues. Most of the time, however, this logic can be reversed to blame women, and defend men instead. Sometimes you can do this by quite literally stating things backwards.

I'm of course not saying that it's always women's fault, or always men's fault, or that it even has to be anyone's fault to begin with (people are often more preoccupied with placing blame than they are with finding solutions). But it's ridiculous the lengths that people go through to absolve women of any and all responsibility, and place the blame solely on men.

For example:

Men kill themselves more often => men are toxic and need to socialize more

What about, "men have things harder in life and that's why they kill themselves more often"?

Men die younger => men are stubborn and never go to the doctor

What about, "men work long, stressful hours, and on average have less time, energy, and public resources to go see a doctor"?

Women make less money than men => women are forced to stay home and work fewer hours because men are lazy

What about, "women would rather stay home than hold down a job", or, "men are unfairly pressured to work longer, harder hours, because that's what women expect of them"?

Men get custody less often => men are bad parents and don't love their children

What about, "men have to fight their case in court, which is often prohibitively expensive, all while women abuse legal loopholes to maintain custody", or, "women have more incentive to seek custody not because they love their kids, but because they want to spite the father, and maximize their child support"?

Men kill their spouses more often => men are violent and hate women

What about, "men are trapped in abusive, and sometimes legally constraining relationships, and they eventually snap after being pushed into a corner"?

This last one was brought to my attention by /u/AskingToFeminists. It is literally the exact same logic that feminists use to justify it when women kill men. There are even organizations that try to free women from jail when they've been found guilty of murdering their husband.

And there's evidence that this logic might be true, both for men, and for women. Before the first domestic violence centers opened, wives murdered their husbands equally as often as the reverse. Once they were given a way out though, the number of wives murdering their husbands dropped substantially. This was known as the "battered wife syndrome", but few people (outside the MRM) have ever suggested that maybe women are being killed by their husbands due to "battered husband syndrome". And that maybe if we fought against domestic violence when it effected men, and gave men better options to leave those types of relationships (including better divorce options that don't ruin them financially), that there would be fewer wives being murdered.

It's just amazing to me how stuff like this gets overlooked. And I'm not even saying that these things are true or that they represent the entire picture. But I guarantee that these are the kinds of conclusions people would be drawing if the genders were reversed.
