I agree mate. The pressure has actually gotten worse in that men who aren’t outright outearning the average women now have to compensate by becoming almost masculine caricatures, building muscles, holding “frame”, behaving like a stoic emotionally stunted man, always being dominant, always taking the initiative in order to have a chance in dating. You know, all those toxic masculine traits that a lot of women seem to can’t get enough off. In some ways, men are doubling down on unhealthy masculine norms that places burdens on them. There are truly progressive and egalitarian women who don’t inflict these standards on men like those in the bdsm community, but they are a dime a dozen. It’ll be very hard for the left to criticise outdated female preferences, especially when female identity politics has a hold on the left, and any criticism of women will only be met with claims of misogyny and inceldom. I think we will have to wait for another decade or two, until feminism within the left dies down. Until then, we have to build up this community, learn how to formulate compelling arguments, and get educated, like feminists of the 50s were doing before feminism became big. Hopefully, the broader left can move on from this toxic feminist phase or else right wing reactionary will suceed in recruiting a lot of these disenfranchised men.

Here's one way I subvert gender roles: I really like kids. I have taught Sunday School for more than 25 years, and love to hold other people's babies.

I'm also not into wood/metal work, tramping or hunting etc.

Socialisation. Socialize women from a young age that equality goes both ways and that it is inappropriate to see men as ATMs and that they need to be open to being breadwinners.

Not only does the capitalist system have an interest in entrapping men to their provider/primary breadwinner role so men can continue to be the replaceable cogs and workhorses , and do the backbreaking and stressful jobs that most women are not able to do, just to prove their worth and generate profit for capitalists.

Capitalism has a huge interest in having both men and women working.

But even if some pressure on men has been lifted, it seems like we haven’t reached the point where men no longer feel substantial pressure to fulfil pretty outdated and damaging notions of masculinity

There has been a partial progress on it. Just partial.

Aren't women already going for men who make less than them? Isn't that the trend? Like not the majority of women of course but isn't that trend growing for several years now?
