The Freddy's Nightmares TV show had an episode with a girl being abused by her grandmother (who she lived with). Freddy's Dead (AKA A Nightmare On Elm Street 6) had a boy with an abusive mother - she deafened him with a Q-tip.

This is horror. Neither got saved, iirc.

In Black Swan it was really subtle but the mother was sexually abusive. However, nobody saved the daughter.

I seen one on lifetime, it was based on a true story. I can not remember the movie. A man narrates the experience of a neighbor that tortures and eventually kills her niece.

No good ending tho besides the woman gets arrested if I remember right. Super sad movie tho... X.X

- To a certain extent the Harry Potter spin off's, the Obscurus guy was abused by a woman.
- Literally every season & episode of Dance Moms imho, and there's never a hero :(
- There's a bunch of Criminal Minds episodes with abusive women in.
(I'd also high recommend Criminal Minds as a show in general tbh, it's pretty a-political as far as most entertainment goes these days)

Thanks, folks, for all the answers; very few met all the criteria I asked for where an abusive mother and the 'hero' steps in to save the child. NOW what would happen if I said, abusive father, hero steps in. there would be thousands of replies. That IMHO, speaks a lot of about Hollywood and its portrayal of abusive women.

I can’t Figure out how to spolier tag so SPOILER WARNING but Boardwalk empire. A WWI veteran saves a child from his mother that made him live under house arrest in a whorehouse. The mother previously refused to let him take the child to live with him and his girlfriend so he had to go in and kill a boat load of mobsters.

Shutter Island vaguely fits. Basically it’s about a man whose wife murders their children, he shoots her for it, and the rest of it just becomes confusing.

Aha! I've thought of one which fits all criteria.

The season 1 episode of Buffy, The Vampire Slayer called The Witch.

The mother tries to force the daughter to relive the mother's glory days as a cheerleader, then ends up doing a body swap with the daughter. The Scooby gang come in to rescue her - Buffy fights the mother (who's in the daughter's body) while Willow casts a spell to reverse the original spell.
