We separated 3 years ago after 27 year of unusually rocky, crazy marriage. I was basically held hostage because she would not work last 15 years. I did a paid consultation with attorney and they said she is entitled to half of all assets that we had on the day we separated. 7,000.00 and a car was her half. No property. Immediately after we separated, I began to have string of surgeries and months long disabilities. That being said, I have been afraid to shell out the 5000.00 up front fees both attorneys I talked to wanted. (fear of permanent disability) She's been homeless 2 years. She is entitled to alimony. I've tried to help her. But no matter how much money I give her, no one will rent to her without a job. I let her crash on my couch for a while during Covid, then she called 911 on me for telling her to leave. ( Cops made her leave). All assets were split. No property, no minor children, there is nothing to fight for. Why is she choosing homelessness over at least some alimony and a cash incentive to sit down and hammer out agreement and a divorce?
