I wonder how many fathers in the world live in blissful ignorance. Have the feeling the actual number would be shocking.

Oh I bet there's far more than we'll ever know. My first who's 16 now, I was a little sketchy about because there was a close encounter between me and her ex. After a few years, I wouldn't have cared if she was mine or not. She is mine and always will be. Blissful ignorance is real. And the mother and I broke up long ago.

well... the problem is we can know, with genetic data.

That's why the "only X of all men versus Y of all women in history reproduced" talking point is a thing

Women's infidelity glares us right in the face every time we examine our own bodies. It's inescapable.

I would love to see the societal fallout from mandatory and backdated DNA parentage testing across the world.

If we’re going to hold hospitals accountable for the handful of babies they’ve accidentally switched without malice, and make them pay for it, then the same should be done to those women who have done the same to men.

And this would take a lot of work do to, and a lot of time to implement

Which makes it most telling how people will advocate against it right now, and how strongly

France made DNA testing without the mothers consent illegal specifically because of the societal fallout.

So it's a win win situation for thee mother. What would happen if the father doesn't want to recognise or pay child support for the kid. Is he left with a choice about DNA testing?

Um, I'm pretty sure the MAIN reason for that "talking point" is that so many more men died young without ever getting a chance to reproduce. Infidelity is secondary at best, especially in light of the fact that every woman having a baby requires a man's involvement.

[–]AvailableCandidate89 6 points7 points8 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I'm not pretending it's the only reason, but none of them show society in a good light in regards to how it treats men

[+]SouthernSeeker -16 points-15 points-14 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

True enough, but that doesn't justify your ad hominem attacks on the basis of gender.

I'm sorry, wtf? He was the divorce judge presiding over her previous divorce?

Yeah, she shouldn't have killed him. But talk about conflict of interest.

This type of story makes me think of the Sinking Boat Metaphor: “Women and Children first,” y’know?

I can’t help but hear the misandrist echo of, “the fellow should have Man’d up and raised the child who isn’t his.”

OP— Post your insights instead of just tossing a random link at us.

I knew where this was going before I even clicked on it. In fact, I spoke to my daughter’s mother earlier today about it, and told her how many men don’t know if their child is really theirs, and how paternity tests should be mandatory at birth. She simply said “well, your daughter is yours”.

This is a repost and the headline is still misleading.

It implies she killed him because he discovered the kid was not his.

In fact, investigators believe she killed him because he threatened to leave. Its also known they had a furious argument. But no one really knows her exact motive because after killing him, she also killed herself.

The point is, he probably could have saved his own life by simply avoiding having a furious argument. That is wisdom for us all. If things get emotional control will be lost. You will either need to calm things down or get out of there during tense talks.

He threatened to leave because he found out the child isn't his. And it doesn't matter if there was an argument or not. Normal people don't kill others because of an argument. That's like saying that a woman would have avoided a tape I'd she was behaving and dressing decently.

He threatened to leave because he found out the child isn't his.

Please report this to the police immediately. They are not aware that actual witnesses were present and listening.

Normal people don't kill others because of an argument.

The hell they don't.

Its not a common outcome, but its not just nutters doing it.

That's like saying that a woman would have avoided a tape I'd she was behaving and dressing decently.

Statistics suggest that in about 5 percent of cases provocative clothing was a major factor. That number should be small enough to not be controversial except to an absolutist fool.

But behavior? How can behavior NOT be related to rape avoidance??? "There is nothing a woman can do to avoid it." sounds like something a rapist would say.

Yeah, they were probably arguing because the supper was not warm... Dude, wake up. And I don't know where you are from, but in most parts of the world it's not normal to kill because of an argument.

I am sorry you cannot see the difference between angry over not being the baby daddy and threatening to leave.

I can't help you.

So I can only wish you luck as you continue to blunder through life.

this child is lucky these 2 "adults" got this over with before kid's 4th birthday. Hopefully the kid's real father is a better person than this mother that, during divorce, decided double dickriding duplicity was how she'd cope with the horrible violent patriarchy? is birth-control relatively accessible to 40 year-olds where she lived/died/killed?
