As an avid-reader of romance novels, I definitely think most of these would have been seen as creepy if the man were an average-looking guy. From one book, the male protag approaches the female protag at a bus stop, and the scene was written in a romantic tone. Not surprising since the man is written as "handsome" and "very good-looking." And when the author wants to put a creep in the novel, the guy is always written as ugly. The creepiness is quite exaggerated in which most men IRL never actually act like this.

Another issue I had it seems like women can get away with actions that are creepy. In the book "Everything I never told you" by Celeste Ng, the male protag is the ex-professor of the female protag. While as a student, the F went into the staffroom of M and chitchat. Then out of nowhere, she just straights up kisses him without asking his permission. Granted, the M reciprocated it and they married later in life. But it put a sour taste in my mouth reading it because it would have been a controversial book had the genders been reversed. Just because he liked it, does not make it okay for her not to ask first. Plus, there was one line somewhere the girl complaining about guys in her class touching her arm, so the lack of self-awareness is funny.

And 99% of these books I read are written by women, so don't complain that this is r/menwritingwomen issue here.
