“Alpha” has colloquial meaning today to mean something along the lines of; confident, successful, strong, protective, charismatic, dominant, and masculine.

Some women gravitate toward these men because they arise a deep primal instinctual lust in them - sometimes called “lizard brain”

Originally, the term "alpha" and "beta" came from the study on wolves that has been debunked by its own author. These terms, however, do ascribe to general traits in men.

For "alpha" traits: confidence, dominance, good genes. For "beta" traits: provisioning, nurturing, and protecting. Alpha traits attract women because they signal the greatest potential for genetic survival.

Beta traits are important, too, but they help women not by attracting them, but by helping in raising children (and, occasionally, taking care of us when we are in vulnerable states, such as pregnancy) Without beta traits, fathers would not exist.

Then why is "beta" used as an insult? For the past few generations, feminist legislation and culture changes have radically shifted relations between women and men.

Whereas before, men would be compensated (or, at the very least appreciated) for their "beta" traits, now men are expected to put up with substandard accommodations by women. A beta is a man who either accepts this reality willingly, or does not have the power to change these circumstances.

An alpha, on the other hand, has this power, and does not have to put up with any behavior from women he doesn't like. That's why he's so attractive. He's his own man, able to take care of himself without letting the world determine his happiness.

(Oh and usually he has "money, muscles, game" etc. which doesn't hurt.)

To me, an alpha is someone who is capable of holding their own while helping to take care of me. No reminding of doctors appointments or to clean or to do XYZ.

People have different takes on alpha-beta. Here's mine.

It's a spectrum of behavior that indicates power, confidence, status, masculinity or lack thereof. It's not binary, most of the time a guy acts normal and gives little indication of his alpha/beta status. The evidence comes in small reveals and scraps of evidence that a woman picks up on. After all, it's the women who, upon observing a man's behavior, determine what his power status is.

On the extreme ends, the behavior becomes clownish when sustained - a swaggering douche on the alpha side and a sniveling simp on the beta side. For the most part...

Alpha = Attractive
Beta = Supportive

Both behaviors demonstrate value to a woman, aligning with the female mating strategy of AFBB. Of course a woman will try for Alpha Bucks if she can find it all in one man. However, a wealthy Chad/Tyrone will be in high demand and not the type to commit to any woman.

Some guys are oblivious to the A/B dynamic and come across way more beta than they really are, putting a woman on a beauty pedestal and sucking up to her. For the majority of guys, just eliminating supplicating 'Nice Guy' behavior would make them more attractive.

Some guys are quite aware of the dynamic and come across as way more alpha than they really are in order to spark a woman's attraction (fake alpha douchebaggery).

The point of redpill is to understand the dynamic, bolster your strengths and reveal your strengths appropriately. Of course some guys are just eager to get laid and dial up the swagger to entice the ladies.

So the whole alpha-beta thing plays out in a woman's mind, deciding if a guy is worthwhile as either a Lover or a Provider. If he doesn't make the grade for AFBB, he's dismissed (Loser) and rendered invisible.

The A/B dynamic has more relevance in hookup culture than normal, healthy relationships. There's some application in a LTR. If a guy is unaware, he can succumb to a slow 'betafication' by slacking off in the relationship.
