My sister...is starting to make comments here and there about how women are "specifically targeted" in certain situations. I don’t want to see her go down the "women are so oppressed" route.

Man, I don't know how to put it nicely but it seems it's already a little too late. Feminism is an aggressive virus and your sister has been contaminated. From now on, it's only gonna get worst. A suggestion? Each and everytime she's flapping her gums about this shit, you leave the room. Don't say a word, don't engage, just leave and save yourself. It seems a little harsh, I understand, you maybe are very close to her, but there's no "winning" combination with cultists unfortunately. You also should start to look around for other accommodations, just in case. Good luck.

You can not. This stems from her lack of empathy for men, and her ingesting, without reflection, the sisterhood message. It serves to validate her (ego), and unless you know how to 'talk' to women, you will never get past the Emotional Wall that will filter everything you say as either an attack or an insult.

That being said, ask her about one of these situations, and then find the actual data for it. Sit down with her some time later and hand it off to her. You must be patient and validate her emotions first, or she will stonewall you with S.I.G.N. Language. It will take at least an hour, maybe 2, for her to actually be receptive to listening to you, rather than making you background noise.

Where in reality, its 2023, no gender/ sex in the western world is still oppressed, at all, people are just looking for excuses to commit bad behaviour

Tell her all the hard work has already been done for her. Don't fall for the new wave feminism. They don't even know what they're screeching about. She can vote, sit on a jury, own property, get a loan, can study any subject she likes, have any job she wants - she will even be eligible for gender quotas. How does she feel she is still discriminated against or disadvantaged by being a woman? What can men do she can't? The only valid concern she may have is safety. I admit, being a woman, walking home from the station, I feel a bit scared sometimes, especially in the dark. Weirdos will approach you on the street, on public transport, in car parks. As long as she is aware of her surroundings and walks with confidence and her head up, not looking down at her phone, she will give off a more authoritative vibe.

The only way to work something with someone is to talk to them about it. Talk to her and come to a reasonable common ground and appreciate her concern’s because thats your sister. If she delves deeper even after trying to talk through it all then she may lose herself for a while. We all go through a similar thing.

Talk to her honestly- but not harshly. And don't mention Feminism. Say something like "I'm concerned about what I've been hearing from you; things you've been saying have some nasty sexist implications, and I'm wondering whether you've thought them through". If she's too far gone, she'll attack you, but if she isn't, then it's critical that you not make her feel attacked. Opening up a dialogue with her could help both of you; it'd definitely help her if she's edging in that direction.

The lure of victimhood is strong, and it spreads its roots fast. Some years ago, my sister gave me a book for Christmas. She'd evidently very much enjoyed it, and thought I would too. "I hope so!", I replied. Then she added, in exactly the same enthusiastic but normal tone- please excuse the language, I use it only because this is a direct quote- "It was written by a woman of color".

There've been very few times in my life I've genuinely been at a loss for words; this was one of them.

I mean, how do you respond to that? Not only are you getting blindsided by a straight-up appeal to racism (why would it matter what her skin color was? Why would my opinion be affected by what her skin color was?), but someone who I knew for a stone-cold FACT knew better was casually throwing around racial slurs.

Trust me, family or not, if you let it go unchecked, it WILL come back to hurt you. Better to find out now just where you stand.

If her response is to back out of the conversation when you bring up a counter argument, you can try to change your response. I've found that asking questions tends to make people think more on a topic than stating your opinion/facts does.

Try asking her "what if" questions or "how does" questions. Those will make a person have to consider how they've reached the conclusion they did and offer them the room to question themselves without feeling the need to be defensive.

Most women aren't really feminists, they just repeat things that they heard on the internet or a friend told them. Well usually people dont like the feeling of being the unlucky possibility in a situation so certain feminism ideas like something out to get you is very appealing. Rather than try to change her mind on this subject imo, try to figure out whats wrong, wtf happened lately that leading her to this, one of my coworker show me that sometimes little things get bottle up bit by bit, especially since usually women would choose to tolerate them and they get easily discourage when reaching out doesnt work the first time. Try to listen to her first, dont overly attack her beliefs, avoid stubs that may seem like a gotcha, and try to understand her situation if there are any.

Most people especially women i feel like they being wrong is not exactly the problem but you may want to avoid making that person losing face since they will less likely to change their mind.

OP you're asking an aggrieved space what to do about your sister being a Feminist. You're not gonna get healthy answers. She's your sister first and foremost.

Try talking to her about how men are specifically targeted in certain ways, JUST LIKE WOMEN ARE, and that it's important to recognize ALL of these issues for both men and women. Then maybe have a frank conversation about how, while Feminism started out great and is still great on paper, certain spaces will still breed an irrational hatred over hyperfocusing on women's grievances.

It's important that she avoid the crab-in-a-bucket mentality that comes with groupthink online. Maybe show her r/twoxchromosomes and screenshots from r/incels to show how there is a pernicious tendency for these echo chambers to make an individual lash out, while any dissent is met with vitriol. Show her the unhealthy side of activism and maybe it will help her understand why you're worried.

If she’s speaking up about it it’s only a fraction of what she’s really feeling. Trying to tell her differently will only reinforce her beliefs. Try and push her towards second wave feminism as opposed to third or new wave.
