It might not be good news for some but "love" is and always has been conditional and transactional, by nature, since the beginning of times. I wonder how recent in history the concept of "love" as we look at it today is? A couple of thousand years? Something like that?

Edit: Isn't it incredible we stop to believe in Santa Claus pretty early in life but, for some reasons, we keep believing this "forever and ever" bs way, way later in our lives?

I make good money, $100k+, and I could not afford a mortgage at today's rates. This will only get worse for everybody as populations, COL, and rates continue to rise. I don't date, but when I talk to single (and sometimes not single) women the typical first questions I get are "where do you live?" and "where do you work?".

The norm of living together before getting married certainly doesn't help any of this either. Because at that point your pretty much married without the legal benefits. So when you do get married what changes? And then when you don't feel some sort of miraculous change, then questioning if you made the right decision, then the odds of divorce go up a lot.
