I wouldn't dismiss the idea out of hand to be honest. I don't think people are getting advice on serious life decisions from reddit (god I hope not) but there might be some merit to the combination of toxic advice from uninvested parties and a cultural movement of women opting out of marriage more.

The question now is, is it comparable to the amount of women who would have stayed in unhappy marriages?

If you divorce your spouse because some goobers on reddit told you to, you probably were going to do it anyway. I'm sure some people have done it but I doubt it's a large amount. I do think that a bit more of the ''divorce!'' advice has led to some serious discussions and possibly counseling for couples. From what I've seen, people don't usually ask for advice the first time their partner has done anything, they post after many things have piled on, and that person is trying to see if they're overreacting or if there is something iffy going on. Sometimes they are making a mountain out of a molehill, sometimes their partners sound like genuine turds.

The second one is, if it was your son, brother, or any male you cared about who had their marriage broken down because someone turned their wife against them, would you feel differently?

If someone dumped them because of reddit advice, I'd say that this woman didn't love them at all and was just looking for an excuse to leave OR that he must have been so shitty that she just needed a little push from anonymous people online to dump him.

As men typically feel differently when bad things happen to women in their lives.

I hate to say it because it doesn't apply to all, or even the majority of men but sometimes the guys are the bad thing happening to the women in their lives.

I think this radically depends on the scenario. Sometimes I think something could have been salvaged if all parties were committed to fixing things and seeing things from their partner's perspective. Sometimes I can't believe they ever got married. Sometimes the abuse is so obvious I wanna call the intergalactic police to rescue them. Most of the time, I think the divorce advice is on the money, because I don't think most people are going to salvage it. For every 1 that works out and they keep it together and find renewed joy, there's gonna be 8 of just extending the misery, and 1 where you keep them together and it is a match made in hell.

I really don't think a wife can be turned against someone she wasn't already against. So no, I don't believe that happens. If it were to happen, of course I'd feel very sad for them.

Most ppl make posts trying to lead the conversation to "divorce" by telling a 1 sided story.

Probably a lot of marriages that were technically salvageable end. However one or both partners didn't want it to succeed so it ended.

The old advice for women was to pray about it and he will magically change. Nope, I’m glad we stopped giving so many chances. Just cut the cord and move on. He’d change if he wanted to, he doesn’t need multiple chances
