People that gaslight …. I don’t understand them. it’s my biggest red flag. Without trust…. There is no way to have a relationship. That’s the problem.

Like you said at the end, “you don’t know”. Take it from me, you will never know for sure. I wasted this whole year on someone that cheated and gaslit me about trust.

Life is too short to waste your time with people who aren’t honest.

He intends to cheat again. Whatever motivated him to cheat is still there. Apologizing means nothing without remorse. He will do whatever he needs to so you will stay, and then continue once he thinks he's in the safe zone again.

More importantly, do not ever let a man make you doubt yourself or your reality. Many of them try, because sowing doubt makes you question your judgement and makes you easier to influence in his favour.

You are correct. You feel like you can't trust his word, because he's not trustworthy. You don't know he won't try to cheat again, because he probably will.

You have two choices: continue investing your time and energy into someone who's demonstrated that they don't respect you and are actively looking for better options to replace you, or cut your losses and find someone who's actually interested in being in a faithful relationship.

I don't blame you if you choose to stay with him. You've been dating him for a while, you're attached, you want to be convinced that he has potential, and if you end things now, not only does it mean that the time and energy you invested in this relationship was wasted, but also that you are now single and have to go looking for a new partner. But at least be honest with yourself. He's going to find another woman, your choice is whether you want to be with him when it happens or have a man of your own by then.

In some cultures in the past, there was no such thing as "apologizing".

Instead, in those cultures, if someone did something wrong, he had to do whatever was necessary to make the harmed person "whole" once again. If something was stolen, the stolen good would have to be replaced, with interest. If trust was broken, some sort of lengthy process would have to be gone through to try to regain the trust once again.

Just because the word "apologize" exists in the English language, doesn't mean that it actually means anything. The real question is whether you have been made "whole" once again.

Full text: Partner lied to me about using a dating app. While he was lying to me he did turn it around on me and project and make me doubt myself.

He apologised a few weeks later and took accountability

Yet I feel betrayed, resentment, anger, hurt and pain. If I stay with this man how do I know he won't cheat on me?

I've never felt such resentment and betrayal before.
