How big of an issue is men struggling in the education system compared to women?

In generall women also tend to get better grades similar to how women on average get less severe verdicts for the same crimes as men.

Despite that (at least in germany) majority of the teachers are female which makes it both easier for girls to follow the train of thought from the female teachers and also means a greater deal of empathy for women. (although i have the impression that male teachers can also often have more empathy for girls. but that is just my expirience from germany, not sure how it looks over in the US)

I work in education and the problem begins very young. In our school systems, if you don't sit in your seat, listen, obey, and follow detailed intructions attentively, you cannot get good marks no matter how intelligent you are.

We raise girls to please those in authority and to comply with rules, but tolerate more noncompliance from boys. You would think this would be something that favours males, but it really isn't. With our current education system we are setting boys up to fail.

I'd like to see improvements in our education sytem, including moving away from just teaching towards tests, how long kids are kept seated, proper school discipline, and better mental health care. We are failing kids, especially boys.

Same trend in every developed nation around the world. Disparities start in kindergarten, particularly in reading, and grow all the way through college.

It's a big issue, but the people claiming discrimination are missing the point. The keys seem to be:

Boys mature more slowly, particularly in executive function and related areas needed to sit and pay attention. They fall behind at crucial periods in the system (kindergarten, 9th)
There's a serious lack of men working in early childhood education, and to a lesser extent, all the way through high school. So boys might be absorbing the message that reading and education aren't for them.

It's a pretty serious problem.

Women have it worse, way worse than men, in every single walk of life. Oppression is at its peak and they are killed by the dozens in the streets everyday. Didn't you receive the last memo?

Some considerations:

Empathy gap - people are generally more empathetic to women. They care more about women's problems than they'll ever care about men's problems.

More female teachers - unless they've actually checked their bias (which I can guarantee most don't) I imagine most are actively encouraging women and discouraging men. Ever had those teachers that yelled at boys for making a small comment to each other in class and never say anything to the girls? Yea, so have I. As well as just about every single friend I've ever asked.

Straight up bias - this can go any which way. I've had teachers confirmed racist, sexist, or just plain biased. And as I mentioned, this can go any which way. That being said, in the current victimhood market, it's easier to see how men will be biased against in school to "fix the patriarchy"

In my personal experience I've had many great teachers (treated everyone fairly), many shit teachers (treated everyone terribly), and many, many extremely biased teachers.

I've had at least 3 confirmed racist by administration, and 2 openly sexist teachers against boys/men. I also graduated university before the MeToo movement so I can only imagine it's even worse now.

Go to the teachers sub and look at all the posts of them showing no empathy for the struggling boys. After they get treated worse and get worse grades, they'll assume college is the same thing and not want to bother with that, making the gap even wider. Some will go to trades, some will do retail, and others will not do anything at all. Sure they'll all end up with a high school diploma due to the school admins not wanting to look bad for failing students, but high school diplomas are worthless.

There's no point in trying to make school appealing to boys. Academia has gotten so much worse than in 2016.

Just let the rot consume it all. That's what i say for most institutions (Except for the Catholic Church)

I didn't see that in high school and university. What I did see is that the absolute top and bottom of the class were men and women normally stood in the middle. This makes sense based on IQ distribution. But I did engineering and don't have personal experience with other areas.

I hear this could be largely fixed if boys started schooling one year older compared to girls.
