Have you ever noticed how people signal their virtue by supporting their moms when their mom is troubled but they signal virtue by hating their dads when their dad is troubled? Not only that but the bar is lower for dads to screw up. Like people will say how their mother was an alcoholic and would beat them yet they love and care for their momma... but oh no, they didn't get along with their dad, he was too strict, or he worked too much, or he didn't support them being gay, or whatever... so they tell the world how they cut him out of their lives.

Even in movies. People with drug addicted moms, or mentally ill moms, etc. still support them. That makes them the good sibling. The other sibling didn't need that chaos in their lives and just left. That's the bad sibling. But that trope doesn't hold with dads. People who leave their dads behind are not the bad sibling. No, they're the victims.
