Forget the laws, why would a man want to cohabitate and give up his freedom, his space, the control of every second of his life?

Why do men want to be controlled?

Because that’s what cohabitation is: letting her control your life.

Just wanted to let you know that your marriage ended bc you’re a misogynist! Hope this helps 🥰🥰🥰

A yes, if we don’t pay your bills we are misogynist. Go clean out the litter box.

Don't move out, don't let anyone move in. It's not over until it's over. Then you can do what you want. Date other people whatever you need to do on the downlow, but live like you're married or separated until it's final. You're just setting yourself up for failure in more ways than one.

Messed up that this is the case… it’s almost like squatting, I’ve lived here this long so this is mine now

Yeah, if you live in a common law marriage area…don’t cohabitate.

You’re playing with fire if you’ve got any sort of assets.

If you’re dense enough to actually say ‘I do’ again after you’ve been through divorce you get what you get, but that’s a conscious decision.

The government shouldn’t get to make that decision for you.

The risk of financial loss due to CIR is low. Out of the 1000 or so domestic cases in King County, WA less than 20 are CIR and they seem to have been settled without money judgements. Clearly women are not confident of CIR cases and lawyers are reluctant to take them, else you'll see a flood of these cases.

What happens in reality is more important than what's in the law

[–]Reflog1791 0 points1 point2 points 2 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

In the video the lawyer repeatedly says that many people are shocked to learn they have been in a CIR and their property will be split “equitably” if it goes to trial.

So I get your point but if you live with a gf for 10 years in WA she can easily get half the increase in your home equity and 401k from the date of cohabitation. If you’re saving money all she has to do is convince the court that you’ve been in a CIR since x date and poof, your property is back on the chopping block. She repeatedly says it doesn’t matter whose on title. It’s all about the CIR designation.

The point is the CIR designation puts your right in the scope of the same laws we just dealt with. There is no alimony in CIR cases fortunately.

Don’t find yourself losing home equity and retirement by cohabitation laws like common law marriage, domestic partnership, committed intimate relationship, or whatever your jurisdiction calls it.

Eye opening webinar discusses how the court will find ways to give your ex girlfriend your assets, just like a divorce!

Moral: be very careful about cohabitation. Once again all the divisions screw the breadwinner should you find yourself on the wrong end of the court’s decision about your relationship.

This is gonna get shut down. No outside links allowed. I'm not complaining. I'm just giving a heads up.

Roger. Just some very interesting research straight out of the lawyers office. It’s interesting because this lady has obviously represented both sides of the “Committed Intimate Relationship” laws.

Turns out as little as 2 years of cohabitating could get you tagged as CIR in WA state. They’ll split your shit “equitably” meaning not 50/50 but actually taking earning potential into account. Seems like this CIR bullshit is specifically targeting guys like us, who don’t want to be married to avoid the financial impacts only to find they can still get you for cohabitating.
