You want to start the conversation by giving unsolicited advice? Even if she doesn't find it annoying, it implies what she does is wrong, it's a negative conversation starter.

Instead, congratulate her for something she does correctly, if you mean it.

Anyway. As a women who frequents the gym I can say that I am not sure correcting her form is the best ice breaker. NOT to say I do not think you should approach. It can be intimidating at the gym sometimes, and correcting her form may make her feel embarrassed and/or self-conscious. Not a good way to start a conversation in my opinion.

It may seem less natural but the other suggestions you mentioned - how often she trains or maybe if she is training for something in particular - are better openers for an approach I'd say.

Places that would be better for picking up girls than the gym:

A funeral. AA. Your therapists office. A strip club. Fast food drive throughs. A library. Chuck E. Cheese.

The only worse places I can think of are at your job or family reunion

Hmm, so this maybe out of left field but have you thought of using something else as your ice breaker and kind of lead the conversation into fitness. So I'm a guy and I made a few great encounters by talking about something else that lead to fitness. For example my latest one was that whenever I'm working out I would have my phone playing a youtube video just so I can have some noise in my ear and this time it was a game I was playing. A guy walked up to me and asked about the game and we kind of started the conversation from there. Now I don't know how well this would work on women since I too follow the unspoken rule of not hitting on women at the gym, that and the only women I spoke to at the gym just wanted to promote her youtube channel to me and wanted me to subscribe lol

If I were you I wouldn’t. If you want to talk to her, just talk to her, then bring it up another time.

UNLESS it looks like she may hurt herself, guys have told me I’m doing something wrong and it puts you in a defensive state immediately. Also makes you think how long was this person watching me.

Dude very few if any woman would say "who even are you/were you watching me?" and if she does ask you that, it'd most likely be a shit test, which is a good thing. Like that's one of those things that you think will happen when you've never done any cold approaches before. Also, if you're gonna hit on women, you have to risk being cringe af, and creepy af, etc.

Some guys have corrected my form at the gym when doing weights and I didn't mind at all, I rather appreciated it.

FYI: I hate doing weights and find it sort of a chore, but I like when men pay attention and give me some tips/ advice. I find that kind of conversation rather pleasant.

It is like trying to talk to a girl when she is talking on the phone or she is busy reading a book for school. If you are using common sense, you will see that it is not nice...

Never provide advice unless someone else is asking for it. Especially in the gym, unless you’re their actual trainer.

The gym for many is a place of peace for the mind and body. Ive been in the gym and seen the gym boys club and the guy who tries to game all the time.

For me I choose not to spoil my environment, Ive seen girls take videos, photos of me, place themselves in my orbit or adjacent to me.

I still choose not to engage unless they talk to me, maybe in passing or if we’re in the elevator together leaving. Buts thats it, I like to get in and get out.

Nah I wouldn't you come off as a jerk even if it's good advice, the gym is a really tricky place to pick-up women. I would find a different approach like maybe talk about the weather or how good or bad something is at the gym
