Girl has asked if I've forgotten about her. We've not spoken for a day, and have our 1st date on the weekend. How to respond to things like this?

For me, that's a big red flag. It shows that she's insecure, maybe with herself, and that could spill over into your interactions with her. In my experience, that kind of insecurity is never good, especially if you are planning on being more serious with her.

A light joke would help to set a more positive mood for your future conversations with her, but I would still include the honest truth that you are not a massive texter. Maybe something like you value face-to-face interactions over texting since it's more personal experience.

She's either nervous about the upcoming date or she's attention needy and always wants to know that you're thinking of her and telling her this instead of just accepting it. Best thing you can do is keep in touch with her but I wouldn't respond to that question directly as it can open up a whole can of worms about her perceptions of you and your interest of her based solely on message frequency (which is a big red flag).

She might have an anxious attachment style. That would mean she constantly worries that you don't love her anymore. Can you - without resentment - give her constant reassurance? That depends mostly on your own attachment style. If you cannot for some reason the relationship will probably become pretty difficult to impossible.

I usually just take a while to respond to her and send lots of smiley face responses to let her know I want to save the conversation for later, but I'm still interested in her.

For example:

Her: Did you forget me?

(Wait half day to respond)

You: Of course not! Looking forward to our date on the weekend :)

Her: What were you doing yesterday?

(Wait half day to respond)

You: Working on some stuff. I'm a little busy now. Talk to you later :)

Overthinking this a bit too much. I would personally just joke about it and reply with something like “of course not, i would never! Btw new phone who dis?”
