Personally I think you're too safe. You need to polarize more. Put things on the line and really speak your mind even if it's not the "right" thing to do. Women should feel a range of emotions with you. If it's just one band of emotions sparks are more rare. Spark shit more.

Without knowing more about you and what you are doing it’s hard to say. What exactly do you be bring to the table that would incentivize a woman to be more than ‘friends’? What are your stats -age weight height, etc.

What are your lifts like? Can you deadlift 2x and bench body weight for more than one rep and do 10 chin ups? If not start working on these things and don’t worry about women till you are there.

Do you shower less than once a day or brush teeth less than 2x?

Do you follow a few male style bloggers whose style you like and regularly update your wardrobe? Name the bloggers.

Do you have male friends? When was last time you hung out with just guys and what did you do? If you are boring guy with no cool hobbies and no friends why would a woman want to spend time with you?

Are you already well off or do you have a career you live and that has growth potential? If not do you have a plan to get there?

Have you taken classes in improv or gone to toastmasters?

Do you make it a point to talk to and if practicable, compliment as many people a day as you can to keep your social skills sharp?

Do you have a place to bring a date back to that is clean, neat, well ordered?

If you can’t describe how you have done all the above, and more, there is your answer.

You’re probably coming off more as a friend. How’s your body language eye contact.

Don’t be so agreeable, challenge her, tease her. Play around. You will be able to feel if it’s man to women or friend to friend.

It’s really less about the conversation and more about subcommunication.

I mean... it could just be that she was being genuine. Doesn’t mean that you did something wrong. Cant expect every match to work out, if you guys weren’t a good fit she just saved you a lot of wasted time and energy. It would hit worse if you had been more invested. It sucks but you gotta have patience and determination. If you feel like there is room for improvement in your conversation/social skills then hit YouTube and google and research what you’re not happy with.

Watch a few old movies and read books on body language and human behaviour. If you have the instinct of a turd simulating it can help immensly till its just a natural thing. Or you are just not interested.

The conversation usually is not the part which decides it.

PASSION my friend. Be deep, but at the same time reserved. Be quiet for the most part, then out of nowhere start talking about feelings. Literally any feelings. She will see that and go "Holy shit where did that come from". Then go quiet and stoic again. She will stick around forever, trying to see that passionate, deep, expressive man again. You let it out every so often. When being "deep" be romantic. My favorite line to drop is "If I looked at the night sky and named something I like about you for every star, real shit I'd run out of stars". That cheesy shit works wonders. But you have to say it like it's no big deal, and you have to make eye contact. Let her see that romance every so often. I'd say maybe once every week and a half. It works even better if you have a rugged "tough guy" vibe. I have long hair, play guitar in a band, and usually am wearing spiky shit and upside down crosses. I look like an angry dick and unapproachable. So to see this angry dickhead open up like that? It works every single time.

"Too much investment" true yes but UNFORTUNATELY. To get a womans attention you have to play mr indifferent. Not indifference in the sense that you act like she is an ant on the ground. But the type of indifference you give your long forgotten aunty when she asks you how you been. I say unfortunately because you have to "play" (act) There is always an element of concious behavior when you are interacting with the species of females. Any ounce of TRUE emotional availability will start lowering their interest. It's all a game. It can feel so empty brah
