There is a girl I have been friends with since high-school. I think we've always had some mutual attraction, but have never done anything about it. So she's been off in another state for college for the past 4 years. We talk via text every now and then, and sometimes see each other when she's home on holiday vacations from school.

She's coming back home for a month before moving to the other side of the US for job. So I'm thinking why not try to make something happen now, just to see what happens. If it goes well and we go past the friend zone- cool, if not then no big deal. I am not very invested in this girl so im not really attached to the outcome.

She texts me last week telling me to come to her graduation BBQ on a Saturday in 2 weeks, I tell her I have work that night but will do my best to get my shift covered.

Fast forward to yesterday, she reminds me about getting my shift covered so I can come to the BBQ. I tell her that I asked my manager at work but it wasnt going to be possible for me to take that night off.

Her: "super bummed." Me: "Me too. Can I take you out to dinner to make up for it?" Her:"You dont need to take me out haha" Me: "What if I want to" Her: "Alright, you can pick the place though"

Basically Im just wondering about that last line she wrote me. "Alright you can pick the place though." Is she trying to hint at something? Is there a hidden meaning behind her asking me to pick the place?

Interpretations please.

TL;DR: Ask a girl to go out to dinner. She says yes but asks me to "pick the place." What to make of this?
